Under the influence of active monsoon trough along with moist winds rising from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea, light to heavy rains with thunderstorms and strong winds are likely to occur in about twenty states during the next 24 hours. The department has warned that in some areas, strong winds and storms may blow at a speed of 50 to 80 kilometers per hour, for which the local administration and the general public have been advised to remain alert.

The weather is likely to be most aggressive in the hilly states. Alert of heavy rain, strong storm and lightning has been issued in Shimla, Manali, Kullu, Chamba, Mandi, Solan, Kangra, Una and Kinnaur of Himachal Pradesh. Here the wind speed can reach 55 to 60 kilometers per hour. The maximum temperature in Manali is expected to drop to 12 degrees and the minimum temperature to 4 degrees Celsius, which will increase the chill.
At the same time, in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Nainital, Almora and Chamoli districts of Uttarakhand, there has been a warning of heavy rain and strong storm winds with a speed of 80 kilometers per hour. Alert of torrential rain is in effect in Chhindwara, Ujjain, Narmadapuram, Dhar, Dewas, Guna and Jabalpur of Madhya Pradesh. The temperature in Bhopal will be around 23 to 29 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, heavy rain with storm speed of 60 kilometers per hour is expected in Palghar, Thane, Nashik, Dhule and Nandurbar of Maharashtra, while in Mumbai, the maximum temperature may be 31 degrees and minimum 27 degrees Celsius amid thunder.
The weather pattern remains fierce in West Bengal and Odisha also. There is a possibility of stormy winds with a speed of 80 kilometers per hour and heavy rain in Kolkata, Howrah, Nadia, Murshidabad, Bankura and Malda in West Bengal. Puri, Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur and Mayurbhanj in Odisha may receive heavy rain with gusts of up to 70 km per hour.
Due to high waves in the sea and bad weather, the Meteorological Department has given clear instructions to fishermen not to venture into the beaches and especially deep waters of the North-Eastern Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours. General citizens have been advised to keep a constant eye on the official warnings of the Meteorological Department and maintain a safe distance from electric poles, hoardings and weak roofs during thunderstorms.
