UP Primary Teacher Recruitment 2026: Bumper recruitment of basic teachers in UP! UPESSC released notification for 12,405 primary teacher posts


A historic and much awaited good news has emerged for lakhs of trained unemployed youth of Uttar Pradesh and candidates preparing for teacher recruitment. Prayagraj-based newly formed ‘Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission’ (UPESSC) has released the official detailed advertisement for direct recruitment on 12,405 vacant posts of Primary Assistant Teachers in primary schools run by the Basic Education Council. This advertisement is no less than a lifesaver for the youth who have been waiting for new teacher recruitment for the last several years. As soon as this notification came, there was a wave of enthusiasm among the D.El.Ed / BTC pass candidates of the entire state including Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Meerut, Agra, Bareilly and Bundelkhand. According to the official examination calendar of the Commission, the registration process has been made live on the official online portal of the Commission from the morning of 16 September 2026. This recruitment is the first biggest primary teacher recruitment of the new Unified Commission, which has been targeted to be completed in a completely transparent and time bound manner.

The Commission has issued a detailed schedule for the timely conduct of this recruitment process. Candidates are advised to complete their registration well in time to avoid increased server load or technical disruptions in the last days.

Before applying for this recruitment, it is mandatory to understand the rules of educational qualification closely. Under the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court and the amended notification of the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), B.Ed candidates will not be eligible to become teachers in primary schools (classes 1 to 5). This recruitment is purely reserved for two-year D.El.Ed (formerly BTC) diploma holders only.

Mandatory Educational Eligibility Conditions:

  • Marks at graduation level: It is mandatory for the candidate to have passed graduation from any recognized university with minimum 50% marks (for reserved category – SC/ST/OBC/Divyang – minimum 45% marks in graduation is considered).

  • vocational Diploma: It is necessary to have a passing certificate of two-year D.El.Ed (D.El.Ed/BTC) or four-year B.El.Ed or two-year Diploma in Special Education (D.Ed Special Education) from an institute recognized by Uttar Pradesh Examination Regulatory Authority (PNP) or NCTE. Appearing (studying in final year) students will not be eligible to apply for this recruitment; It is mandatory for the final result to be declared by the last date of application.

  • Teacher Eligibility Test (TET): The candidate is legally required to have a passing certificate of the primary level examination ‘CTET Paper-1’ conducted by the Central Government or ‘UPTET Paper-1’ conducted by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. It is mandatory to have minimum 90 marks (60%) in TET for general category candidates and minimum 82 marks (55%) for reserved category candidates.

The Commission has made a clear classification of age limit and fees under the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education (Teacher) Service Rules:

  • Age Limit: The minimum age of the applying candidate has been fixed at 21 years and maximum age at 40 years. Age will be calculated as on 1st July 2026.

  • Age Relaxation: Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Class (OBC) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) native of Uttar Pradesh will get relaxation of 5 years in the maximum age limit (i.e. up to 45 years) as per the rules of the state government. Maximum age relaxation of 15 years will be given to candidates belonging to Divyangjan category. All candidates from other states will be counted in the general category and will not get the benefit of reservation.

  • Category wise application fee:


    • General, EWS and Other Backward Classes (OBC): ₹700 per application.

    • Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST): ₹500 per application.

    • Disabled (PwD) Candidates: ₹200 (Online Processing Charges only).

    • Payment of fee will be accepted through online mode only (Credit Card, Debit Card, Internet Banking, SBI e-Pay or UPI).

The final selection on 12,405 posts will not be done on the basis of written examination marks alone, but on the basis of overall weighting formula decided under the new rules. The selection process is based on two major stages:

  • Written Examination (Super TET Pattern): An objective written examination of 150 multiple choice questions (MCQs) will be conducted by the Commission. For this, time will be 2 hours 30 minutes (150 minutes). In the question paper, questions will be asked from Language (Hindi, English, Sanskrit – 40 marks), Science (10 marks), Mathematics (20 marks), Environment and Social Studies (10 marks), Teaching Skills (10 marks), Child Psychology (10 marks), General Knowledge and Current Affairs (30 marks), Logical Knowledge/Reasoning (5 marks), Information Technology/Computer (5 marks) and Life Skills Management and Aptitude (10 marks). There will be no negative marking in the examination.

  • Final Merit Score: The Commission has proposed a new merit model for preparing the final selection list:


    • Weightage of written exam: 90 percent marks will be added to the score of Super Tet written examination.

    • Academic or TET Weightage: The remaining 10 percent marks will be added on the basis of interview (if applicable) or prescribed eligibility weightage as per the standards prescribed in the rules.

    • Shikshamitras will be given 2.5 marks per year (maximum weightage of 25 marks) on the basis of their previous service.

Assistant teachers appointed in basic primary schools of Uttar Pradesh get attractive salary and allowances under the pay matrix level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission:

  • Pay Band and Grade Pay: Pay Band ₹9,300 – ₹34,800 and Grade Pay ₹4,200 (Level-6).

  • Basic Pay: ₹35,400 per month.

  • Dearness Allowance (DA): Around ₹18,000 to ₹19,000 as per the 50% plus rate currently applicable.

  • House Rent Allowance (HRA): Ranging from ₹1,340 (rural area) to ₹3,600 (municipal area) depending on whether the school is in a rural or urban area.

  • Gross Salary: The starting gross salary of a newly appointed primary teacher sits between ₹55,000 to ₹58,000 per month.

  • Deductions (NPS/GIS): The new teacher will receive a net in-hand salary of approximately ₹48,000 to ₹51,000 directly into the bank account from the first month after deducting 10% of Basic+DA under the National Pension System (NPS).

The Commission has made the entire application process digital and paperless. Candidates can fill their form by following these 6 easy steps:

  1. Visit the official website: First of all, the authorized web portal of Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission upessc.gov.in Go to.

  2. Candidate Registration (OTR/Registration): Click on the link “Primary Teacher Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online” given on the homepage. Register by entering your name, father’s name, mother’s name, Aadhaar number, mobile number and email ID. OTP will come on your phone, verify it and generate password.

  3. Enter Academic Details: Fill correct details of Roll Number, Board, Year of Passing, Total Marks and Percentage of High School, Intermediate, Graduation, Two Year D.El.Ed/BTC and UPTET/CTET Paper-1.

  4. Upload Photo and Signature: Scan and upload your recent color passport size photograph (20 KB to 50 KB, JPG format) and signature in black ink on white paper (10 KB to 20 KB) on the portal.

  5. Online Payment of Application Fee: Deposit the examination fee as per your prescribed category through Net Banking, Debit Card or UPI and download the transaction receipt.

  6. Final Submission and Printout: Before submitting the form, match all the details filled with your original certificates by pressing the ‘Preview’ button. After final ‘Submit’, take a colored printout of the filled form in duplicate and keep it safe with you, which will have to be presented at the time of counselling.

Keeping in view the experiences of past recruitments, the Commission has warned the candidates that if wrong information is given in the form at any stage, the candidature can be canceled:

  • Spelling of name in documents: Only the name and date of birth recorded in the high school marksheet will be valid everywhere; If the spelling in Aadhaar card or other ID is different, get it corrected beforehand.

  • Domicile Certificate: Female candidates should take special note that the reservation and residence certificate should be issued from the father’s side, the certificate issued from the husband’s side is not valid for reservation.

  • Caste and EWS Certificate: OBC’s non-creamy layer certificate and EWS certificate will be valid for the current financial year only.

  • No correction for filling wrong roll number: Fill the roll number and marks of TET and D.El.Ed very carefully, because even a small error in marks in merit formation can lead to exclusion from selection.
