Heavy rains that started late night in the national capital Delhi and surrounding suburban areas (Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad) are continuing. This heavy rain has given great relief to the people of Delhi who have been suffering from the sticky heat and humidity for the last several days. Due to the sudden change in the weather, a significant drop in temperature has been recorded, due to which the entire atmosphere has become pleasant and cool.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, New Delhi, the maximum temperature on Friday dropped about 4 to 5 degrees below normal to around 28°C to 29°C, while the minimum temperature was recorded around 23°C. Safdarjung, Palam, Lodhi Road, Ayanagar and Ridge observatories are continuously recording good rainfall. The Meteorological Department says that the monsoon trough passing just above Delhi-NCR and the western end of the cyclonic system of the Bay of Bengal being active are the main reasons for this heavy rainfall.
Amidst the pleasant coolness of the weather, India Meteorological Department (imd) for Delhi and border districts ‘Red Alert’ Has been declared. This warning indicates that the next 24 to 48 hours are going to be very sensitive in terms of weather:

Forecast of very heavy rain: Many areas of the capital may receive torrential rainfall of 100 mm to 150 mm or more.

Strong winds and lightning: Along with the rain, there is a possibility of gusty winds at a speed of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour and lightning along with strong thunder.

No relief for next 2 days: Meteorologists clearly say that monsoon clouds will rain heavily on Saturday (September 12) and Sunday (September 13) also, due to which there is every possibility that life will be affected.
While the rain made the weather pleasant, the claims of the Municipal Corporation and the administration have been exposed. There has been heavy waterlogging in major roads, intersections and low-lying areas of Delhi, due to which people going to office and work had to face severe traffic jams since Friday morning:

Affected areas: The speed of vehicles became extremely slow due to waterlogging at ITO, Ring Road, Dhaula Kuan, Ashram Chowk, Minto Road Underpass, Moolchand Underpass, Rohini, Dwarka and Mehrauli-Badarpur Road.

Condition of Noida and Gurugram: There was a long traffic jam due to water logging at Subhash Chowk, IFFCO Chowk and Narsinghpur Expressway of Cyber City Gurugram. Long queues of vehicles were seen near Sector 18, 62 and Model Town underpass of Noida.

Delhi Traffic Police Advisory: The traffic police, while sharing real-time list of waterlogged roads through social media, has advised citizens to avoid affected underpasses and narrow roads and avoid non-essential travel.
In view of the red alert, the Disaster Management and Meteorological Department has appealed to the citizens to take precautions:

Do not take the risk of taking two-wheelers or four-wheelers through waterlogged underpasses or deep water roads.

Avoid standing under electric wires, transformers and old and weak trees during strong winds and storms.

In case of any emergency, complaint of fallen trees or waterlogging, immediately inform the control room helpline number of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
