Due to overflowing rivers and drains, operations on the Patna-Gaya railway section have come to a complete standstill and thousands of daily commuters and long distance passengers traveling on this route are facing huge problems. According to the official information given by the Railways, this strict step has to be taken to avoid soil erosion and safety risk under the tracks due to rising water level. For the convenience of stranded passengers, Railways has set up help desks at major stations like Patna, Gaya, Jehanabad and Makhdumpur and the list of canceled or diverted trains is being shared through frequent announcements. The local administration is also monitoring the situation and disaster management teams have been put on high alert in the affected areas to immediately deal with any emergency in the villages and hamlets around the railway tracks that are inundated by flood waters.
As part of safe traffic management, Railways has made arrangements to divert many trains to their destinations via Patna-Kiul or other alternative routes, due to which passengers are facing additional delays of a few hours in their journey. The problems of the Railways and the district administration have increased further after the Meteorological Department issued an alert of continuous torrential rains in many parts of the state in the coming days. Officials say that it will not be possible to resume regular operations of trains on this route until the water flow comes down to a completely safe level and the engineering wing gives the green signal of track fitness. Passengers have been appealed to get the latest status of trains from the respective railway stations or helpline numbers before travelling, so that any kind of inconvenience can be avoided.
