Clashes between films in theaters sometimes completely change the fate of a big film. Similar is the situation these days with the much awaited film of actor Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta. ‘Partition 1947’ Is happening. Fans and makers had high expectations from this film based on the background of partition of India and Pakistan, but after the huge clash with ‘Awarapan 2’ at the box office, the condition of this film has become very thin. The situation is such that the film is completely failing to recover even its initial budget from the total worldwide earnings.
‘Partition 1947’ fails at box office
This film, produced by Aamir Khan, was released in theaters on the occasion of Independence Day i.e. 14th August. However, as soon as the film hit the theatres, the film did not receive the response that was expected from the audience. Trouble at the box office with the sequel of Emraan Hashmi’s cult classic film ‘Awarapan 2’ proved costly for the makers. According to the reports of Saknilk.com, while the movie somehow managed to collect a net collection of Rs 30.75 crore in the initial days at the domestic box office, in terms of worldwide business the film has not even touched the figure of Rs 50 crore till now. The total worldwide collection of the film has so far remained limited to only around Rs 43.29 crore.
Huge gap between budget and earnings
If we look at the figures of the film’s overseas market, the situation appears even more disappointing. According to reports, the film has managed to do a business of only Rs 6 crore from overseas markets. The biggest problem is regarding its huge budget:
-
Estimated budget of the film: Around Rs 120 crore to Rs 150 crore.
-
Total recoveries so far: The film has not been able to recover even half of its total budget.
Star cast and upcoming difficulties
Apart from Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, actors like veteran actress Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal and Karan Deol are also seen in important roles in the film. This story revolving around Shabana Azmi received mixed responses from critics, but the audience failed to draw it to the theatres. Amidst the tough challenge from ‘Awarapan 2’, South superstar Yash’s much talked about pan-India film ‘Toxic’ is also going to hit the box office. In such a situation, it seems almost impossible for ‘Partition 1947’ to survive in theaters and recover its costs.
