Additionally, if a passenger uses Railways’ dedicated ‘R-Wallet’, the overall savings are further enhanced with an additional 3% cashback on recharge.

The main objective of this system implemented by Railway Board and Center for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) is to motivate passengers to book tickets from their mobile phones instead of at the ticket window. Now you do not need to stand in line for 20-25 minutes after reaching the station; You can generate discounted general tickets on your smartphone in just a few seconds while leaving home or standing outside the station premises.

3% direct discount on digital payments and 3% bonus cashback of R-Wallet: Know the complete mathematics of savings

As per the official guidelines issued by the Ministry of Railways, this 3% discount offer is applicable on all passengers who book unreserved travel tickets using digital payment modes through RailOne app or integrated UTS system:

  • 3% off on all digital payment modes: If you make payment through UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM), Credit Card, Debit Card or Net Banking while booking the ticket, an amount of 3% is directly deducted from the total ticket fare to form the final bill. For example, if the general ticket to your destination is priced at ₹200, you will have to pay only ₹194 when you make digital payment.

  • 3% additional cashback to R-Wallet users: Passengers who travel regularly and load money into Railways’ R-Wallet continue to get an additional bonus/cashback of 3% on wallet recharge. Thus R-Wallet users indirectly get the benefit of double savings.

  • Also available on platform and season ticket (MST): This digital discount is not limited to general travel tickets only, but also applies to digital booking of platform tickets and Monthly Season Tickets (MST) meant for daily commuters.

Indian Railways has brought all its different apps (like IRCTC Rail Connect, UTSonMobile, NTES, Rail Madad and Food on Track) under one roof. RailOne Super App Has been launched. The process of booking general tickets with 3% discount through this app is extremely easy and fast:

Step 1: Download and register RailOne app

From Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS) RailOne download app. If you already have an IRCTC or UTS app account, you can login with the same user ID and password (Single Sign-On / SSO). New users can create a new account in 1 minute by entering their mobile number and name.

Step 2: Select ‘Unreserved Ticketing’ option

Go to the home screen of the app ‘Book Ticket’ in section ‘Unreserved’ Or ‘General Ticket’ Tap on the option.

Step 3: Enter departure and destination stations

Enter the names or codes of both the stations where you are starting your journey (Source Station) and where you have to go (Destination Station).

Step 4: Select Paperless or Print Ticket

Step 5: Select number of passengers and train type

On the payment screen you will see the revised total amount with a discount of 3%. Select the digital mode of your choice (UPI, Debit/Credit Card, Net Banking or R-Wallet) and complete the payment. Once the payment is successful, a digital ticket will be generated on the screen.

Important technical rules of geo-fencing and railway track distance

While booking paperless unreserved tickets through RailOne and UTS app, it is mandatory to follow the ‘Geo-fencing’ rules of Railways:

  • Minimum distance from railway track and platform: To prevent fraud and the trick of boarding the train without a ticket and booking the ticket immediately after seeing the TTE, Railways has made a rule that paperless tickets cannot be booked while standing inside the railway track or platform. While booking the ticket, the passenger must reach the track/platform at least 5 meter to 15 meter distance must be on.

  • Outer Boundary: A paperless general ticket can be booked for a train running from that station only by staying within a maximum radius of 20 to 50 kilometers from that station.

  • Internet and GPS Connectivity: While booking tickets, it is mandatory to have smartphone location (GPS) and internet data on. Once the ticket is booked, it does not require internet to show it to the TTE, it is visible even offline in the ‘Show Ticket’ section of the app.
