Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a major reshuffle in its organizational structure and announced a new team under the leadership of National President Nitin Naveen. Many veteran faces from Uttar Pradesh have been included in this new national executive, in which the name of Harish Dwivedi, who has been MP from Basti Lok Sabha seat twice, is also prominently included. Considering his organizational experience and loyalty, the party has entrusted him with the important responsibility of National General Secretary. In political circles, this appointment is being seen as giving preference to grassroots leaders.
Started political journey from ABVP
Harish Dwivedi, originally from Teliajot village in Basti district of Uttar Pradesh, was born on 22 October 1971 in an elite Brahmin family. His primary and higher education was completed from Gorakhpur itself. In the year 1998, he obtained MA degree in Political Science from Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University. During his student days, he was inclined towards nationalism and social service, after which he started his active political career by joining Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the year 1991. After this, while holding various positions in the organization, he made a strong hold among the students and youth.
Harish completely dedicated to the organization after the election shocks
Harish Dwivedi’s political journey has been full of ups and downs. He also contested the assembly elections in 2012, in which he had to face defeat. However, after this he did not look back and reached Parliament by registering a landslide victory from Basti Lok Sabha seat in the general elections of 2014 and 2019. As an MP, he also rendered commendable service as a member of the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Energy, the Consultative Committee of the Coal Ministry and the Standing Committee on Finance. However, he had to face defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but instead of being dejected by the defeat, he devoted himself completely to the work of the party organization.
Played an important role as in-charge of Assam
After the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the party organization had appointed him in-charge of the important northeastern state of Assam in view of his efficiency and loyalty. Apart from this, he has also successfully served the responsibility of National Secretary of BJP in the past. His commitment to the party and his style of working on the ground brought him close to the national leadership. Now after getting the big responsibility like National General Secretary, the party hopes that he will play an important role in strengthening the organization further.
