State merit list released and tough competition

The analysis of the official state merit list released by the Medical Education Department shows that students from Madhya Pradesh have performed well in NEET UG this year. The difference in marks among the toppers among the 17,093 candidates registered in the merit list is very minor. Aryaman Singh Solanki of Jabalpur has secured State Rank-1 with 696 marks (AIR 46), while Sarthak Sahu has secured second position with 680 marks. The marks of the candidates included in the top-10 are above 655. Due to this concentration of high marks, the general category seats of prestigious government medical colleges like the capital Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur are expected to be filled in the initial ranks only.

Seat matrix of government and private medical colleges

At present, more than 20 government and 14 private medical colleges are involved in the counseling process in Madhya Pradesh. Among the major government institutions of the state, Gandhi Medical College (GMC) Bhopal, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGM) Indore, Gajra Raja Medical College (GRMC) Gwalior, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College Jabalpur and Shyam Shah Medical College Rewa remain the first choice of students. With the addition of newly opened government medical colleges like Neemuch, Mandsaur, Sheopur and Singrauli, the number of seats has increased, due to which students from rural and remote areas will also get the opportunity to study medicine at the local level. Among private colleges, People’s College Bhopal, Aurobindo Medical College Indore, Chirayu and LN Medical College have also received a large number of applications under state quota.

Mathematics of choice filling and allotment

The process of choice filling and locking of college preferences was completed by the candidates included in the merit list between August 15 and 18. Seat allotment is done completely transparently by the software based on the candidate’s All India & State Rank, Reservation Category (UR, OBC, SC, ST, EWS), Women Quota, PWD Quota and the college choice locked by him/her. Students who have kept the top government colleges in their priorities as well as new government and recognized private colleges as backup, their chances of getting a seat increase significantly.

What to do after seat allotment on 20th August?

As soon as the round-1 allotment result is declared on August 20, the selected candidates will have to download their provisional allotment letter by logging into the official portal dme.mponline.gov.in. Candidates who are satisfied with the seats they got in Round-1 can lock the admission, while candidates hoping for a better college will be able to participate in Round-2 by choosing the option of ‘Upgradation’.
