New Delhi: Apollo Hospital's Health of the Nation Report 2024 is worrying. There has also been a significant increase in cancer cases in India. It can be said that India is moving towards becoming the cancer capital of the world.
Cancer cases in India were 13.9 lakh in 2020 and are likely to increase to 15.7 lakh cases by the end of 2025.
In the last two decades, the number of people dying from non-communicable diseases has started increasing and cancer is the most common disease among them. India has seen a significant increase in cancer during the last two decades. Most cancers found in India include breast, cervical, ovarian, lung, mouth, esophagus and breast cancer in women.
The most shocking thing is that the number of cancer patients in India has increased at an early age. Lung cancer usually occurs in elderly patients. Compared to other countries, cancer occurs at a much younger age in India. A significant increase in the proportion of lung cancer has also been observed. At Apollo Hospital, 30 per cent of the total stomach cancer patients are lung cancer patients.
Apart from cancer, the number of cases of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and mental health problems have increased in India. The matter of concern here is that such cases are now being seen at an early age, which were usually seen after 60.
Apart from this, it has been said that the need for health check-up of people in the country has also increased significantly.
