The weather took a sudden turn in the capital Delhi and surrounding NCR areas on Tuesday morning. Torrential rains in large parts of Delhi-NCR put an end to the sticky and suffocating humidity that has been prevailing for the last several days. After heavy rain, there was a sudden drop in temperature and the weather became very pleasant due to cold winds. But soon after this pleasant feeling, Delhi’s crumbling civil system was exposed.
Water reached shops in Sadar Bazar, speed stopped on Shankar Vihar and Janpath
As soon as the rain slowed down, the major roads of Delhi started appearing filled with water. The most serious effect of waterlogging was seen in Sadar Bazaar, the famous and busiest business center of central Delhi, where roads were submerged in knee-deep water. Due to water entering the shops and closure of roads, not only did the problems for the pedestrians increase, but the business of the shopkeepers also came to a complete halt. Apart from this, vehicles were seen crawling due to waterlogging in Shankar Vihar and Janpath area of Delhi and there was a huge traffic jam. This water logging has once again deflated the claims of the Municipal Corporation and the administration regarding monsoon preparations.
Meteorological Department’s alert: It will be cloudy throughout the day, there may be heavy rain again in the evening
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rain was recorded in different parts of Delhi between 5:30 am and 8:30 am. Meteorologists predict that there will be dense clouds in the sky throughout the day and light to moderate rain will continue intermittently. The Meteorological Department has also warned that if the sun shines in the middle, the humidity may cause trouble again. The only thing of relief is that the temperature will remain normal or around it for the next few days.
