Google Maps in smartphones is generally used only for way finding and navigation. But very few people know that this app, along with smart navigation, can also save you a lot of money, petrol and time. Often, due to not knowing the speed limit on the roads, expensive challans are issued or due to taking the wrong route, the vehicle gets stuck in heavy traffic and burns petrol. If you turn on four special in-built settings of Google Maps, you will not only avoid challan but will also stop unnecessary expenditure on petrol and toll.
Speedometer and Speed Limits: Relief from over-speeding challan
While driving on highways or in unknown cities, speed limits are often not observed, due to which traffic cameras immediately issue e-challan. To avoid this loss, open Google Maps app, tap on the profile icon and go to Navigation Settings. Scroll here and enable the toggle buttons of Speedometer and Speed Limits. The advantage of turning it on is that whenever your vehicle goes faster than the road limit, the app will immediately alert you by giving a visual alert on the screen.
Eco-Friendly Routes: Petrol-diesel consumption will reduce by 10-15%
Google Maps’ AI based algorithm now also gives you the option to choose the least fuel efficient route. This feature determines the most economical route by analyzing the slope of the road, frequent traffic jams and frequent stop-and-go conditions. To turn it on, go to Navigation Settings and activate the ‘Prefer fuel-efficient routes’ option. With this, the app will show you a route where the vehicle can run at a uniform speed, which will reduce the use of sudden brakes and accelerator and directly save fuel.
Avoid Tolls and Toll Prices: Do not waste money on toll plazas unnecessarily
During long journeys or interstate journeys, the vehicle inadvertently drives on roads with expensive toll plazas. Google Maps tells you the estimated cost of toll tax on the way even before you start your journey. For this, go to ‘Route Options’ under Navigation Settings and select ‘Avoid Tolls’ or keep ‘See toll pass prices’ on. With this, you can lighten the burden on your pocket to a great extent by choosing a completely toll-free route or the cheapest route as per your convenience.
Offline Maps: You will not lose your way even without internet and network
There is a risk of getting lost and wasting petrol due to sudden stoppage of navigation in hilly areas or areas with weak network. To deal with this, the feature of offline maps is most effective. Before setting out on a trip, search the city or area you are going to in Google Maps and download the map of that area from the ‘Offline Maps’ option in your profile icon. Its biggest advantage is that even without any mobile data or internet connection, your navigation will continue to work smoothly without any interruption.
