Lucknow Elevated Road: Dream comes true after 30 years, 11 KM long elevated road will be built on Haider Canal, relief to 10 lakh people

The state government has taken a historic decision to ease the traffic system in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh and to free the city residents from daily traffic jams forever. The government has given its final and administrative approval to the proposal for construction of 11 km long four-lane elevated road over Haider Canal.

After Metro and Green Corridor, now this ambitious project is going to come on the ground soon. As soon as the financial and administrative green signal is received from the government, the concerned executing agency (PWD or UP Setu Nigam) is going to start the tender process very soon.

Hazratganj to Agra Expressway in just 20 minutes!

This 11 km long fourlane elevated road will be built over Haider Canal starting from Mohan Road till Kalidas Chowk (Chief Minister’s residence).

With the construction of this elevated road, LDA’s biggest residential scheme ‘Varun Vihar’ located on Agra Expressway will be directly connected to the main city. At present, it takes about 50 minutes to go from Hazratganj to ‘Varun Vihar’ township, which will reduce to just 20 minutes after the construction of this road.

10 lakh population will get big relief from traffic

With the opening of Haider Canal Elevated Road, the population of about 10 lakhs of Lucknow will get relief from long daily traffic jams. Instead of getting stuck in the roads of the densely populated city, vehicles will be able to run directly over the Hyder Canal.

Since the creation of this project:

  • Kalidas Marg

  • Vikramaditya Marg

  • Raj Bhavan and its surrounding area

  • charbagh

  • Dilkusha Marg

Like, the pressure of vehicles on the roads of busy and ultra-safe areas will be reduced to a great extent.

New commercial hub will be built by removing encroachment

To start the construction work without any interruption, a campaign to remove illegal encroachments in the area around the canal will be launched from next month. Apart from this, a plan has also been prepared to develop a new and modern commercial hub near Charbagh by making proper use of the land to be vacated along the canal.

The first survey was conducted in 1998, the dream is being fulfilled after 30 years

The proposal to build an elevated road on Haider Canal is about 30 years old. The first survey of this project was done by the RITES agency in the year 1998 and its feasibility report was submitted to the government. A revised report was prepared again in the year 1999, but the project was stuck due to the huge cost of about Rs 600 crore and other reasons. At that time the idea was to build it on PPP model, which is now coming on the ground with the approval of the government.
