₹12,000 crore mega ring road network: there will be a permanent end to traffic jams
A massive 244 km long ring road network is being built at a total cost of ₹12,000 crore to relieve Chandigarh and its satellite cities from the daily traffic jams caused by inter-state heavy vehicles. The three major highway projects that PM Modi will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate during this tour are the most important last links of this Tricity Ring Road. A total of ₹5,278 crore is being spent on these three road projects. Additionally, a special budget of ₹1,200 crore has been allocated in this package for expansion of state-of-the-art medical infrastructure of PGI Chandigarh and ₹150 crore for civil housing development of Chandigarh Administration.
Six-lane greenfield corridor inaugurated: Travel time reduced by 45 minutes
On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi will formally dedicate the newly constructed IT City-Kurali Greenfield Corridor to the public. Built at a massive cost of ₹1,936 crore, this 31.23 km long six-lane corridor completely bypasses the highly congested main markets of Mohali, Kharar and Kurali. With the smooth start of this route, the pressure of heavy commercial vehicles on Mohali’s busy Airport Road has ended. According to NHAI officials, due to this corridor, the travel time of passengers has been reduced by about 45 minutes, which has greatly strengthened the interstate connectivity between Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
Historic foundation stone laying of Zirakpur-Panchkula bypass and PR-07 spur
To ease traffic, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone of the 19.2 km six-lane Zirakpur-Panchkula bypass costing ₹1,878 crore, for which letter of award has been issued. With the construction of this bypass, tourists and heavy vehicles going towards Shimla and hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh will not have to come on the local urban roads of the Tricity, due to which the jam on Zirakpur-Panchkula corridor will end forever and the travel time will be reduced from 35 minutes to only 17 minutes. Along with this, the foundation stone of 10.3 km long PR-07 Spur Expressway connecting Ambala-Chandigarh Greenfield National Highway (NH-205A) will also be laid, which will directly divert heavy long distance traffic to the bypass route without entering the urban population.
