Amid internal rifts and cracks within the opposition ‘INDIA’ alliance, just ahead of the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, the opposition has started finalizing its new and aggressive strategy to corner the government in Parliament. The recent split between Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal and Shiv Sena (UBT) in Maharashtra as well as the alleged displeasure of DMK in Tamil Nadu had raised many questions on opposition unity.
Top strategists of Congress are also admitting that due to these unexpected developments, the edge of opposition to the alliance has definitely weakened a bit, but the opposition will use all its remaining strength and open a front against the policies of the government.
Strategy meeting at Kharge’s residence; Rahul Gandhi was also present
A high-level meeting of senior party leaders was organized under the chairmanship of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge with the aim of launching a sharp attack on the government in the monsoon session. Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal were especially present in this important meeting. According to sources, mainly three agendas were discussed in this meeting – floor management during the Parliament session, maintaining the unity of opposition parties and important changes related to the Congress organization.
Opposition will make Ram temple ‘offering theft’ a big issue of corruption and faith
While addressing the media after the conclusion of the meeting, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal raised a big and very sensitive issue and directly attacked the government.
-
Opposition’s allegation: Venugopal said that the case of alleged theft of offerings in Ayodhya’s Ram temple is one of the biggest corruption cases in the country.
-
Injury to faith: He considered it not just a financial scam but a big blow to the religious faith of crores of Hindus.
-
Targeting VHP and Sangh: The Congress leader directly blamed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) for this alleged theft and announced that the opposition will raise this issue with full strength and vigor in the upcoming Parliament session.
Opposition busy in placating angry DMK, claims unity
There is a lot of speculation in political circles about the stand of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) due to the resentment arising after Congress joining the TVK government in Tamil Nadu. However, a senior Congress leader assured that many key constituents of the ‘India’ alliance are in constant touch with the top leadership of DMK. Congress has full hope that despite this local resentment, DMK will not go against the collective and unilateral decisions of the India Alliance within the Parliament, due to which there will be no major obstacles in the way of cornering the government.
New strategy: ‘One issue at a time’ to maintain pressure on the government
This time in the monsoon session, the opposition has learned from its past mistakes and prepared a new parliamentary strategy. According to the opposition leaders, this time instead of creating ruckus by raising all the issues in the House together ‘One issue at a time’ (One Issue at a Time) Policy will be worked on:
-
Serial siege: Instead of raising all the burning national issues at once, the opposition parties will bring forward them sequentially under different agendas every day or every week.
-
Constant pressure: The main objective of this strategy is to maintain continuous and systematic pressure on the government during the entire session and the government should not be able to escape from the discussion.
-
Demand for discussion: Many serious and nationally important issues will also demand detailed discussion under the rules of the House instead of merely creating ruckus.
