Before starting the puja of Kalash Sthapana, arrange and keep all the necessary materials given below at one place, so that there is no hindrance in the rituals of puja:

Container and soil: A wide, open and clean earthen pot for planting Sapta Dhanya (barley) and clean and pure soil to fill it.

Grain seeds: Sapta Dhanya means seeds of seven different types of sacred grains (like barley, wheat etc.).

Kalash: A small sized pure brass, copper or clay pot.

Water and holy things: Pure drinking water to fill the Kalash, holy Ganges water, fragrant perfume, whole betel nut, Durva grass and a copper or silver coin to put inside the Kalash.

Pallava and lid: 5 sacred leaves of Ashoka or Mango to decorate the mouth of the Kalash and a lid (vessel) of clay or metal to cover the Kalash.

Intact and coconut: Clean Akshat (unbroken rice) and one watered unhusked coconut to be placed in the upper container covering the Kalash.

Clothing and art: Red colored clean cotton cloth or chunri to wrap around the coconut and sacred Kalava (Mauli or cotton thread) to tie on the Kalash.
