UP-MP Connectivity: Taj Mahal to Gwalior Fort in just 75 minutes! Know today the complete route and features of the new ‘Agra-Gwalior Expressway’ worth ₹4,613 crore.

Connectivity between Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh is going to get a new and high-speed speed. The 88 km long Agra-Gwalior Expressway is being prepared by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) between Agra and Gwalior.

This state-of-the-art greenfield expressway will not only strengthen trade and tourism ties between these three states, but will also save precious time and fuel for millions of commuters daily.

The journey of 2.5 hours will be completed in just 75 minutes

At present, if a person travels from Agra to Gwalior, he has to pass through the narrow roads and heavy urban traffic of Dholpur (Rajasthan) and Morena (Madhya Pradesh), due to which 2.5 to 3 hours of time is wasted in this journey.

  • Speeding at a speed of 120: Once this new 6-lane access-controlled expressway is fully operational, vehicles will be able to run at a speed of 100 to 120 km per hour without any hindrance.

  • The distance will be reduced to half: Through the expressway, the distance between Agra and Gwalior will be reduced to just 75 to 80 minutes (about one and a quarter hour).

Route map and structure of Agra-Gwalior Expressway

This expressway is being prepared keeping in mind its unique structure and future expansion:

  • Beginning and end: This new highway will start from Deori village in Agra and end at Susera village (bypass) in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

  • Expansion possible up to 8 lanes: It has been designed in such a way that if the traffic increases in the future, it can be easily expanded to 8 lanes.

  • Bridges and flyovers: 8 major bridges, 23 minor bridges, 6 major flyovers and 1 railway overbridge (ROB) are being constructed to ease travel in this 88 km patch.

Special attention to the protection of wildlife (Chabal Eco-System):

A part of the expressway passes through the sensitive Chambal area. Therefore, special ‘Green Belt’ will be built near Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary to maintain environmental balance and state-of-the-art Animal Underpasses will be built for safe movement of wildlife so that there is no damage to the ecosystem.

The route will be directly connected to Delhi-Mumbai Expressway; Know the budget

The construction of this mega infrastructure project is estimated to cost a huge sum of Rs 4,613 crore.

  • Connection with Chambal Expressway: This expressway will not be limited to only two cities, but in future it will also be interconnected with the proposed ‘Chambal Expressway’ near Morena.

  • Kota-Delhi-Mumbai Route: Due to this connection, passengers will get direct and seamless connectivity to board the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway via Kota in Rajasthan, which will make the journey from North to West India very easy.

When will the work be completed and what will be the benefit?

According to the latest update of NHAI, more than 93% land acquisition for the civil construction of this project has been successfully completed. At present, talks are going on at the administrative level with local farmers regarding the compensation amount in some selected pockets of Agra, which will be resolved soon. The authority aims to complete all the remaining construction works and completely open it for general public traffic by the year 2027-2028.

Tourism will get a big boost: This expressway is going to prove to be a game changer for the tourism industry of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Tourists from India and abroad coming to see the Taj Mahal in Agra will now be able to easily visit the historical forts, palaces and Scindia Museum of Gwalior in just a quarter of an hour, which will give a new lease of life to the economic activities of the entire Bundelkhand and Chambal region.
