That famous verse of Chanakya Niti is as follows: “Varayet Kuljaan Prajno Virupampapi Kanyakam. Roopshilaan na Neechasya Vivah: Sadrishhe Kule.” Explaining the meaning of this verse, Acharya Chanakya explains that an intelligent person should marry a girl born in a high and noble family, even if she is ordinary in appearance or beautyless. On the contrary, one should avoid marrying a beautiful girl born in a family with low or bad conduct. Here Chanakya does not at all mean the economic prosperity or wealth of a family by the word ‘Kul’, rather it means the moral character, dignity and values of that family.
