Black treasure worth Rs 35 crore: Lucknow-Noida shaken by raid at retired ARTO’s house
The reason behind this unprecedented promptness of the Uttar Pradesh government is the recent marathon raid conducted at the Lucknow residence of former Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) of the Transport Department, Lalit Kumar. In this continuous operation on Tuesday and Wednesday, Vigilance teams had recovered packets of cash, 13 kg pure gold bricks, 9 kg silver and ₹ 1.62 crore cash from every corner of the accused’s house. The preliminary financial investigation so far has revealed black money amounting to more than ₹35 crore, which also includes documents of benami properties located in many posh areas of Noida and the capital Lucknow. This seizure has completely surprised even the top officials of the investigating agencies.

The scope of Lalit Kumar’s empire of black money is expanding further during the intensive forensic scrutiny of documents by the Economic Offenses Wing of Vigilance. Based on fresh technical inputs, the investigation team has detected three huge agricultural land plots registered in the name of the accused officer in rural areas of Lucknow—Mahona and Mohanlalganj—which are being financially measured as per the market value. Meanwhile, the Income Tax Department of the Central Government is also going to make a formal entry in this case from Monday, due to which it is considered certain that a double criminal case of benami property and tax evasion will be registered.
