AICTE’s biggest action on engineering colleges of the country; 58 institutes completely closed, more than 950 courses also ended. AICTE takes major action against the country’s engineering colleges; 58 institutes shut down completely, and over 950 courses discontinued.

To improve the quality and falling level of technical education in the country, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has taken a very surprising and big step. Taking a tough stance, the Council has issued orders for complete closure of 58 engineering institutes across the country. Along with this, more than 950 courses running in various technical colleges have also been locked forever. This sudden and tough decision of the regulatory body has created a huge stir in the engineering education world of the country.

Why did it fall and what was the reason?

According to official sources of AICTE, this punitive action has not happened suddenly but there are many serious reasons behind it. The colleges and courses which have been closed were violating the standards and infrastructure norms set by the council for a long time. Moreover, for the past few years, the number of enrollments of students in these institutions and courses had consistently remained negligible or very low, making it no longer economically and practically viable to run them.

Impact on students’ future and new session

The closure of such a large number of courses and colleges will have a direct impact on the students taking admission in the upcoming academic session. However, the Council has made it clear that the interests of the students currently studying will be fully protected and arrangements will be made to shift them to nearby recognized institutions. In this era of AI search and modern tech changes, only those institutions will survive which will be able to maintain high standards of education and guarantee of placement.
