Heavy monsoon rains have created havoc in the country’s financial capital Mumbai and all the districts of Maharashtra. Due to torrential rains for the last three days, many major areas of Mayanagari have been submerged in water. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ today i.e. on 6th July 2026, warning of severe rain and strong winds in Mumbai and surrounding areas. In view of this, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has ordered complete closure of all government, private and municipal schools and colleges of Mumbai on Monday.
Thane and Navi Mumbai also locked, ultimatum to vacate dangerous buildings
Like Mumbai, Collector of neighboring Thane district Shri Krishnath Panchal has also announced holiday in all primary, secondary schools, Anganwadis and kindergartens of the district today. On the other hand, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has also decided to keep all schools closed on Monday. Navi Mumbai Commissioner Kailash Shinde and Mayor Sujata Patil have appealed to the citizens not to come out of their homes unless there is urgent work. Along with this, the administration has given strict instructions to immediately vacate the dilapidated buildings which have been declared dangerous and not to park the vehicles under the trees due to the strong storm.
More than 265 mm rain in Mumbai, brakes on flights and trains
According to the Meteorological Department, during the last 24 hours, a record breaking rainfall of 265 mm has been recorded in Mumbai city and more than 227 mm in the suburbs. Due to water logging in many areas including Gaganbawda and Bhudargarh, traffic on many important roads has come to a standstill, while the operation of flights and local trains to and from Mumbai has also been adversely affected. However, BMC has made it clear that despite schools and colleges being closed, all government and private offices will remain open normally as per their scheduled time.
Heavy humidity will haunt Delhi-NCR, monsoon orgy continues in North India
On the other hand, if we talk about the weather of Delhi and NCR, the sky will be densely covered with clouds today. The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds in Delhi. However, heavy humidity after the rain can increase the problems of the people, due to which the maximum temperature is expected to be up to 33 degrees. While there is a warning of heavy rain in other states of North India like Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, there is a serious risk of landslides due to heavy rain in hilly states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
