Preparation to take to the streets against E20 petrol, announcement of demonstration at Jantar Mantar

For the first time in the country, the debate going on on social media regarding E20 petrol (20 percent ethanol mix) is now going to reach the streets. Famous industrialist and TV personality Tehseen Poonawala has announced a major protest against it at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Poonawala clearly says that this is not the platform of any political party, but the voice of the common vehicle owners of the country who are troubled by this new fuel. Permission has been sought from Delhi Police for the demonstration, and if approval is not received, everyone will decide the future strategy together.

Why do vehicle owners complain about E20 petrol?

The protesting people claim that there has been a huge decline in the mileage of vehicles since the use of E20 petrol. Not only this, many vehicle owners have also lodged complaints of engine malfunction and technical problems. There is a flood of such videos and posts on social media, where people are raising serious questions on the quality of this fuel.

What is the stance of the government?

On the other hand, the Petroleum Ministry completely rejects these claims. The government argues that E20 fuel makes very little difference in mileage and is extremely beneficial for the environment. According to the ministry, new vehicles are being made completely E20 compatible and this policy is being implemented in a phased manner. The government believes that this will reduce dependence on crude oil imports, save foreign exchange and provide direct profits to sugarcane farmers.

What are the main demands of the protesters?

The people moving on the path of movement demand that all technical studies and government data related to E20 should be made public before the general public. Additionally, consumers should also be given the option of completely ethanol-free petrol or low blending fuels like E5 and E15 to choose from. The protesters also say that high blend fuels like E25 or E30 should not be forcibly introduced until there is complete preparation.
