Master director Imtiaz Ali, who has gifted Hindi cinema with excellent romantic films like ‘Jab We Met’ and ‘Rockstar’, has once again been completely successful in touching the heart strings of the audience. His new emotional-drama film ‘I will be back’ is continuously making waves at the box office. Unlike today’s films, the most special thing about this film is that there is no action, heavy action or masala elements in it. Despite this, people are drawn to theaters to watch this heart-touching story. This film, which portrays the deep pain of the partition of India and Pakistan, beautifully describes the feeling of love, separation from loved ones and staying connected to one’s soil.
The pairing of Naseeruddin Shah and Diljit Dosanjh made people cry, their acting is being praised.
A big USP of the film’s success is its strong star cast and their solid acting. Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has played the role of ‘Ishar Singh Grewal’, a 95-year-old elderly man in the film, who even at the last stage of his life remains lost in the memories of his old days and the incomplete love left due to partition. At the same time, global star Diljit Dosanjh is looking very comfortable and brilliant in the role of his grandson ‘Nirvair’. Apart from these two, actors like Sharvari Wagh, Vedang Raina, Banita Sandhu, Rajat Kapoor, Sanjay Suri and Anjana Sukhani have also done full justice to their characters in the film. The screen play of this film, which was released in theaters on June 12, 2026, has been completely successful in keeping the audience engaged.
Crossed Rs 50 crore from a sluggish opening of Rs 1 crore, shows the power of mouth publicity
Looking at the initial figures, trade experts had considered this film a flop at the box office. The film had a very cold opening of just Rs 1.15 crore on the first day and in the first full week after the opening weekend, it was able to do business of only Rs 12.25 crore. But the real U-turn came after this. On the basis of strong word of mouth publicity and excellent reviews, the film’s earnings took such a rocket pace in the second week that big trade pundits were stunned. In the second week, the film’s collection suddenly jumped by more than 80% and it made a business of Rs 22.55 crore.
Box office continues to shine in third week, becomes surprise hit of 2026
Even after 20 days of its release in theaters, the craze of the film is not showing any signs of decreasing. According to the latest box office trends of Saknilk, on Wednesday (20th day) of the third week, the film showed great hold and collected Rs 1.40 crore, which is very close to its third Monday’s earning (1.50 crore). The surprising thing is that in the first 5 days of the third week itself, the film has crossed the figure of more than Rs 16 crore, which is much more than the total earnings of its first week.
Made with a budget of around Rs 70 crore, the digital and OTT rights of this film have already been sold at expensive prices. According to the current box office rules, after OTT support, if a film recovers 65% of its budget from theaters (i.e. around Rs 45 crore), then it is considered a commercial hit. ‘I will be back’ has so far collected a total net collection of Rs 50.95 crore in its 20-day journey. Leaving behind the target of Rs 45 crores, the film is now on the verge of touching the magical figure of Rs 51 crores, due to which it has been declared a ‘clean hit’ at the box office.
