Randeep Hooda, one of the most versatile and accomplished actors of Bollywood, recently revealed about his career and an important piece of advice given by superstar Salman Khan. In an interview, Randeep told that in the initial phase of his career, Salman Khan and his father had given him only one advice – ‘Do only hero roles.’ But, Randeep refused to accept that advice due to his insistence on going out of the box.
What was Salman Khan’s ‘stardom’ advice?
Randeep Hooda told in a conversation with ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ that Salman Khan believed that if he wanted to become a successful star, he would have to create a certain image for himself. Salman’s advice was, “Don’t do such roles in which you don’t look like a hero. Stick to the same type of character and the same look, so that you get a star image among the audience.” This advice was given purely from a business perspective, so that a ‘brand image’ of Randeep could be created and he could be established as a big star in the industry.
Why did Randeep choose a different path?
Randeep admitted that Salman’s advice was not wrong, but he had a different approach towards his acting. He said, “I feel bored playing the same character over and over again. I wanted a new challenge in every project so that I could develop myself as a performer.” Randeep believes that being tied to a single screen image kills an artist’s creativity. This is the reason why he changed his voice, rhythm and style of speaking dialogues according to each film, which makes each of his performances completely different and memorable from each other.
‘No regrets, experiments will continue’
On choosing to go his separate ways, Randeep made it clear that he has no regrets on the decision. Instead of joining the race for stardom, he preferred to become a better ‘performer’. Randeep said that he is completely ready to do new experiments with his acting in future also. After directing and acting on serious subjects like ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar’, Randeep is now busy preparing for his next English film ‘Matchbox’. His outspokenness proves that for him acting is not just a profession but a means of crossing his limits.
