Is drinking beer nectar or poison for the kidneys? Many people suffering from kidney stone problem resort to beer as a home remedy. They believe that by consuming beer the stones will pass out through urine. On this, Pune urologist Dr. Parag Gulhane says that this is a big myth. Beer contains 95% water and 5% alcohol, due to which people drink it, but now people drink 4-5 cans at a time, which is very harmful for the body. This can cause liver damage and serious stomach problems. The doctor advises that if you drink 3-4 liters of plain water, the stone can come out naturally, for which there is no need to consume beer.
Avoiding milk and dairy is wrong Another common belief is that one should not consume dairy products like milk, curd or cheese if one has kidney stones. Doctor Parag completely rejects this. He says that dairy products are excellent sources of calcium and vitamin D. Calcium is essential for the normal functioning of the body, so it is completely safe to drink a glass of milk a day. Stopping breastfeeding on your own without doctor’s advice can prove harmful for your bones.
Is operation the only option for every stone? Often patients think that the only treatment for kidney stones is surgery. Doctors consider this to be the biggest lie. According to him, if the size of the stone is between 3 to 5 mm, it can be easily removed through the right medicines. Operation is not required in every case. At the same time, it is a big mistake to consider gall bladder and kidney stones as one. The treatment and procedure for gall bladder stones is completely different. According to Dr. Parag, in case of kidney stone, only the stone is removed and not the kidney, hence instead of panicking, it is mandatory to take accurate treatment at the right time.
Even painless stones can be dangerous Many people believe that if there is a small stone then there will definitely be pricking and pain. However, the doctor says that pain occurs only when the stone gets stuck in the urinary pipe (ureter). It is not necessary that every small stone causes pain. In such a situation, relying on home remedies and allowing the disease to progress can be a big risk, which can later affect the size of the kidneys. Therefore, it is wise to immediately consult a urologist if any symptoms appear.
