A very scary case of safety and technical negligence has come to light in mid-air in an IndiGo Airlines plane flying from the national capital Delhi to Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. Shortly after takeoff from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport), the air conditioning (AC) system of the plane suddenly stopped working. Amidst the scorching heat outside, the temperature inside the aircraft increased so rapidly that the cabin turned into a hot furnace. During this entire two-hour journey, the breathing of more than 170 passengers on board the flight got stuck. Due to lack of air and severe humidity, the condition of children and elderly people started deteriorating, after which the anger of the passengers reached the seventh sky and they created a ruckus in front of the cabin crew.
Cabin in the middle of the sky became a hot furnace, passengers had to blow air with manual cards
According to eyewitnesses present inside the plane and the video that went viral on social media, the passengers started feeling humidity and heat inside the cabin soon after takeoff. When the passengers complained about this to the air hostess and cabin crew, they were assured that the AC would start working properly within some time. But as time passed the situation went from bad to worse. Passengers started suffocating and the situation became so serious that people had to fan themselves with safety manual cards and magazines kept in their seat pockets. There are also reports of some passengers having panic attacks due to suffocation inside the plane, which led to screaming inside the flight.
People enraged by the attitude of the cabin crew, raised slogans against the airlines as soon as they landed at Ranchi airport.
When the elderly and innocent children on board the flight started crying and crying, the patience of the passengers completely broke. Passengers surrounded the cabin crew and asked tough questions about taking off with such a major technical fault. Passengers allege that the crew members did not have any concrete arrangement or answer to deal with this emergency situation. As soon as the plane landed safely at Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi, the passengers heaved a sigh of relief, but their anger did not subside. Passengers raised slogans against IndiGo Airlines for lax security on the runway and inside the airport premises and demanded refund and strict action.
Serious questions raised on maintenance of aircraft at major airports including Delhi, Ranchi and Lucknow.
The incident that took place in this Indigo flight has once again raised serious questions on the safety standards of the country’s aviation sector and DGCA. Aviation experts from Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSIA) to Delhi and Ranchi say why the aircraft’s AC and cooling system were not checked closely before takeoff? In this scorching summer season, staying inside a closed cabin without ventilation for 2 hours is a big threat to the lives of passengers. Taking cognizance of this entire matter, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has summoned a detailed report from the airlines.
