Urmila Matondkar Chamma Chamma Song: Bollywood’s ‘Rangeela Girl’ i.e. Urmila Matondkar has made a very shocking revelation about one of the most iconic and evergreen songs of her career, “Chhamma Chamma”. Urmila told that she was almost going to reject this superhit dance number, which later proved to be the biggest chartbuster song in her career and Bollywood history. The actress, who participated as the chief guest in the upcoming special episode of the dance reality show ‘India’s Best Dancer Season 5’, has shared many unheard stories related to the making and shooting of this song with the fans.

‘At that time item songs were considered wrong’ – Urmila

Reminiscing about this superhit song from the 1998 cult film ‘China Gate’, Urmila Matondkar said that initially she was not at all ready to do this track. Referring to the mentality of that period, Urmila said, “When the great director of the film Raj Kumar Santoshi ji approached me and said that you have to do an item song as a special guest appearance in this film, I was absolutely hesitant. To be honest, I was not at all in favor of it, because at that time in Bollywood, the word ‘item song’ and this concept were seen in a very wrong and strange light.”

This one sentence of director Rajkumar Santoshi changed the decision

Urmila further revealed how director Rajkumar Santoshi’s words changed her entire perspective and forced her to sign the song. Santoshi ji had told Urmila, “Urmila, years ago there was a song in the cinema on which even today people talk about dance and give examples of its choreography. In my film, I have to create a better and grander song than that old historical song and this is possible only with you.” After seeing the trust and vision of the director, Urmila could not stop herself and said yes to the song.

12 day schedule and choreography of Ganesh Acharya: Amazing happened in just 3 days

While talking about the shooting of this iconic track, Urmila revealed another very surprising secret. He told that the choreography of this song was done by famous dance master Ganesh Acharya. Urmila recalled, “I had asked Ganesh Master ji that how many days would it take to shoot this song with very heavy steps and background dancers? He told me that the production plan was for 12 days. But you will not believe, due to the hard work and amazing coordination of all of us, we finished shooting that entire song in just 3 days.”

Karisma Kapoor present on the set also showered praises

Another Bollywood superstar actress Karisma Kapoor, who was seen as a judge in the show, also remembered that period and praised Urmila Matondkar’s screen presence. Karishma said, “I remember very well when this song was released, it created a stir in the entire country. I myself called Urmila and praised her and said what an amazing song and the energy and dance moves you have shown in it, there is no match to it.” Amidst ‘Mirzapur The Movie’ releasing on 4th September and other cult projects, fans are loving this nostalgic look of Urmila on TV screens and old unheard stories.
