21 years of ‘underground’ journey ends: To avenge the rape of his wife, his friend was killed

A story has emerged from Palghar district of Maharashtra which is no less than the script of a film. In 2005, the body of 30-year-old Dilip Tukaram Chavan was found in Bhatibandar village. This murder, which occurred due to a deep injury on the head, had shocked the police, but due to lack of clues, this case remained closed in the files. After 21 years, when the Crime Branch Unit-2 of Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar Police re-examined the files of old unsolved cases, the layers related to this murder started being revealed one by one.

This is how the bloody game of revenge continues Crime Branch investigation revealed that the murderer is 41-year-old Rajesh Suresh Sonkar. The confession he gave during interrogation surprised even the police. Sonkar and deceased Dilip Chavan both worked together in a hotel. Sonkar’s wife was raped by someone and he suspected that Dilip Chavan had helped the rapist. Enraged by this, Sonkar decided to remove his own friend from the way. On December 27, 2005, he attacked Dilip and killed him and after disposing of the body, he fled from Maharashtra forever.

Police promptness and accurate input from informer To dodge the law for so long, Sonkar had completely changed his identity. He first hid in Lucknow for 6 years and then settled in a village in Prayagraj, where he was earning his living by driving an e-rickshaw, hiding his identity. After the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar Police Commissioner ordered a parallel investigation into the unresolved cases, the police resorted to technical analysis and forensic evidence. Meanwhile, accurate information was received from an informer that the accused was hiding in his native village. The police team laid a trap and arrested him after 21 years. ACP Crime Madan Ballal said that the accused has accepted his crime and now he will have to face strict legal action.
