
Major expansion of Lucknow Metro : A very wonderful and big good news has emerged for the lakhs of passengers traveling by metro daily in Lucknow, the city of Nawabs. Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has taken a major decision at the ground level regarding the much awaited expansion of Lucknow Metro. The construction company has finally been selected for the construction of the proposed new metro route (Lucknow Metro Phase-1B) between Charbagh and Vasant Kunj, paving the way for the start of work on this route soon.
₹384 crore tender allotted, ‘Ranjit Buildcon’ gets the responsibility
UPMRC has allotted a major civil construction tender of about Rs 384 crore for the construction of the elevated section (a route built on pillars above the ground) under the East-West Corridor.

Who got the job: This tender has been handed over to the country’s well-known construction company M/s Ranjit Buildcon Limited.

What is responsibility: The company will handle the entire work of design and construction of the elevated metro corridor between Thakurganj metro station to Vasantkunj metro station and five grand elevated metro stations falling on this route.
The new elevated track will be 4.6 kilometers long
This ambitious project is going to be the lifeline of Lucknow city, which will directly connect old Lucknow with the newly developing areas. Its main technical points are as follows:

Track Length: Selected company approx 4.6 kilometers long Will design and construct the elevated metro viaduct (pillars and bridges).

Depot Link Ramp: A separate 740 meter long special ramp will also be constructed for the entry and exit of metro trains from the main line to Vasant Kunj depot.

Advantages: With the commencement of this route, there will be permanent relief from the severe road jams in old Lucknow (Chowk, Thakurganj, Dubagga Road) and environment-friendly (sustainable) urban transport will be promoted.
5 elevated metro stations to be built on new route
A total of five new stations will be built in this elevated part of the East-West Corridor, whose names have been decided as follows:

There will be a total of 12 stations; Got deadline of 24 months
UPMRC Managing Director (MD) Sushil Kumar has shared very important information regarding the project. He said that the construction company will have to complete this entire elevated corridor within 24 months (2 years) from the official date of start of work.
Mathematics of the entire route (Charbagh to Vasant Kunj):
A total of 12 metro stations are proposed in this entire East-West corridor of Lucknow Metro. This entire route has been divided into two parts – out of which 5 stations will be elevated, while the remaining 7 stations will be built underground. Charbagh will be connected to the densely populated areas of Hazratganj and Chowk through a tunnel.
After the preparation of this new route, the journey of passengers going from Charbagh Railway Station towards Vasant Kunj and Hardoi Road will not only become very economical, but will also save a lot of time.
