Jamshedpur Police has got a big success after the Sidgora encounter. During the interrogation of notorious criminal Harpal Singh alias Gabru, the high-tech network of chain snatching gang has been exposed. Gabru has confessed that his gang used to prey on women all over the city in a very vicious manner. Within just three months, this gang had given sleepless nights to the police by carrying out more than two dozen incidents in the city.

The working style of Gabru Gang was completely professional. The gang members earlier used to target women in crowded areas and deserted roads. As soon as the victim was identified, his photo was clicked and immediately shared in the WhatsApp group. As soon as the photo was received, the main shooter Harpal and his associates would reach the spot on their bike, pounce and run away with the chain. For this work, the high speed bike of a friend named Raju was used, which helped in keeping them away from the police.

Terror started again as soon as he came out of jail

Harpal Singh alias Gabru came out of jail on bail in March this year along with his associate Manjeet Singh. As soon as he came out, he reactivated his old ‘chain snatching syndicate’. On June 15, when the police chased them in Telco Colony, Gabru snatched the police officer’s pistol and opened fire to avoid arrest. In a retaliatory action taken in self-defence, Gabru was shot in the leg and was caught. This encounter proved to be the turning point of a major operation for the police.

Search continues for sonar and absconding associates

During interrogation, Gabru has revealed that the looted gold was used in the local market. He has also revealed the name of a prominent sonar, who used to buy this looted goods. Gabru said that five members of the gang were active, out of which three are still out of police custody. Police are now raiding the places where these jewelery were sold. Also, intensive raids are being conducted across the city to search for absconding associates.

Case will be confirmed with scientific evidence

Considering the seriousness of this matter, the team of State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has closely inspected the Sidhgora encounter site. Police have collected shells, gunpowder remains and other scientific evidence from the spot. Through Gunshot Residue (GSR) test, the police is preparing to prove that the accused had fired at the police. Police has clarified that soon the remaining members of this gang will also be arrested and the looted gold will also be recovered.
