BCCI’s Mega Announcement for IPL 2027: Cricket’s Grand Spectacle to Kick Off on March 10 to Beat the Heat BCCI’s Mega Announcement on IPL 2027: Cricket’s Grand Spectacle to Kick Off on March 10 to Beat the Heat

For cricket lovers and fans of the world’s biggest T20 league i.e. Indian Premier League (IPL), a very big and good news is coming from the corridors of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). BCCI Honorary Secretary Devjit Saikia has made a historic announcement regarding the schedule and dates of the upcoming IPL season i.e. IPL 2027. The Board has taken a major strategic decision to protect the players and spectators from the record-breaking scorching heat and unseasonal pre-monsoon rains in most parts of the country in the month of May. Under this new change, IPL 2027 will be started about two weeks before its traditional time i.e. from March 10.

Because of this BCCI had to change its years old calendar

Usually the excitement of IPL starts from the last week of March and continues till the very end of May. But considering the bitter experiences of the last few seasons, the board has taken premature action this time. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has officially clarified that the temperature in the country increases significantly in the second half of May (after half of May), making the conditions extremely challenging for the health of the players on the field and the millions of fans who come to watch the matches in the stadium. Along with this, in the last weeks of May, due to cyclonic winds and pre-monsoon rains in many states of the country, there is a possibility of matches getting washed out or getting affected due to Duckworth-Lewis rule. Keeping this in mind, the board has decided to shift the tournament to early March.

Know when the grand finale of IPL 2027 will be played

According to this new roadmap being prepared by BCCI, after extending the tournament by about two weeks, it will also be concluded in mid-May. The secretary said that the final match of IPL 2027 will be played on May 15. In this way, the most important and high-voltage matches like knockouts, playoffs and finals of the league will be held in very pleasant and favorable weather. However, there was a question in the minds of cricket fans whether there would be any change in the number of matches this time? On this, the board has made it clear that in view of the busyness of the international cricket calendar, there will be no change in the number of matches. Only a total of 74 matches will be played in IPL 2027 and there is currently no plan to increase it to 94.

Availability of domestic cricket and foreign players will be affected

This big and unexpected decision of BCCI is going to have a direct impact on India’s domestic cricket season. In order to start the IPL from March 10, the Game Development Department of BCCI has been instructed to complete all the domestic tournaments like Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare Trophy by the end of February or the first week of March. Additionally, the Board is also in constant touch with the ICC and other foreign cricket boards (such as Cricket Australia, England and South Africa) regarding this new window, so that star players from around the world can be available for their respective franchise teams from the very first day of the tournament without any international series clash.
