A very wonderful and big good news is coming out from Banaras (Varanasi), the religious and cultural capital of Uttar Pradesh, for Shiva devotees and followers of Sanatan Dharma across the country. After the historic success and grandeur of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor, now another big and grand religious project in Varanasi has got the green signal. The historic Lord Jagannath temple located near Assi area of Varanasi will now be developed as a huge and beautiful ‘Jagannath Corridor’. The main attraction of this new corridor will be its 140 feet high grand skyscraper Temple Shikhar, which will give a new religious identity to the skyline of Banaras. Ever since the announcement of this project, huge enthusiasm is being seen among the local residents of Kashi and the tourists visiting here.
How will the new Jagannath Corridor be and what are its features?
This historical Jagannath temple of Banaras is considered very sacred and ancient after the main Jagannath temple located in Puri, Odisha. According to the new masterplan, this entire temple complex is being rejuvenated and given a grand look. After the construction of the corridor, the sanctum sanctorum and main complex of the temple will become much bigger, due to which thousands of devotees will be able to have darshan of Lord Jagannath, Subhadra and Balabhadra ji together. The 140 feet high peak to be built under the project will not only be visible from a distance, but a wonderful confluence of traditional Sanatani and Odissi style will be seen in its architecture. Apart from this, wide pathways, rest rooms, Vedic center and a beautifully carved circumambulation path are also being prepared in the complex for the convenience of the devotees.
When will this grand religious project be ready?
The biggest question in the minds of devotees and tourists is when will this new corridor be ready and when will they be able to see its grandeur. According to information received from senior officials of Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) and district administration, work on the detailed working plan (DPR) of this project is in the final stage. The work of land acquisition and initial infrastructure reforms will be visible on the ground very soon. The administration has targeted to complete this mega project within the time limit. It is believed that within the next two to three years i.e. by the year 2028-2029, this Jagannath Corridor will be completely constructed and dedicated to the devotees of the country and the world.
Like Puri, Jagannath Rath Yatra of Banaras will also be grand.
The history of this temple of Varanasi is very unique, because every year in the month of Ashadh, the very famous Jagannath Rath Yatra is taken out here on the lines of Puri, which is one of the biggest Rath Yatras of North India. During this three-day traditional fair and Rath Yatra, a huge crowd of lakhs of devotees gather in the areas of Assi and Beniyabagh. At present the roads around the temple are very narrow, due to which the devotees have to face a lot of difficulties. After the construction of Jagannath Corridor, there will be widening of roads and paths, which will greatly help the administration in handling crowd control and security arrangements during the grand Rath Yatra to be held in future.
Local tourism and economy of Banaras will get a new boost
Since the construction of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, there has been a record-breaking increase in the number of tourists and pilgrims coming to Banaras, which has directly benefited the local hotels, handicrafts and boating industries. Now with the construction of Jagannath Corridor, a new center of religious tourism is going to be established in Varanasi. This will give a huge boost to the local geographical and tourism market around Assi and Durgakund area. Devotees coming from far and wide will now not only have darshan of Baba Vishwanath and Maa Annapurna, but will also be able to visit this grand abode of Lord Jagannath, which will provide a new strength to the economy of Banaras.
