Very shocking news is coming out from the political and administrative circles of Bihar. State Advocate General Prashant Kumar Shahi (P.K. Shahi), one of the most trusted aides of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has resigned from his post. This sudden resignation of PK Shahi, who has been a strong legal advocate for the Bihar government from Patna High Court to the Supreme Court for the last several years, has intensified the stir in the political and legal corridors of the state. It is being speculated that after this resignation, a major reshuffle may be seen in the Law Department of Bihar Government.
PK Shahi was the biggest legal troubleshooter of Nitish government
Senior advocate PK Shahi is counted among the few faces of Bihar on whom Chief Minister Nitish Kumar blindly trusts. Whenever the government faced any legal crisis or any policy decision was banned by the court, PK Shahi always stood as a shield for Nitish Kumar. He presented the state government’s side very strongly in front of the courts for many years. Be it the issue of reservation in the state, the complex matter of caste census or big legal disputes related to employed teachers, PK Shahi had many times brought relief to the government with his arguments.
Former education minister and Chanakya of politics has also been royal.
PK Shahi’s journey has not been limited only to the court rooms, but he has also been a big and powerful part of the active politics of Bihar. During the previous tenures of Nitish Kumar, he had also handled the responsibility of Education Minister of Bihar from JDU quota. It is because of this unmatched combination of legal understanding and political experience that he was again appointed Advocate General of Bihar in the year 2023. Even before this, he had served on this respected post from 2005 to 2010.
Inside story of resignation and murmur in administrative corridors
Various discussions have started in the administrative circles of Patna regarding the reasons for PK Shahi suddenly leaving the post. Although, the main reasons for the resignation have not been revealed yet officially and it is being said that it is a decision taken due to personal reasons, but political pundits believe that the upcoming strategic and administrative preparations of the state could also be the reason behind it. Nitish government has now started brainstorming for the appointment of a new Advocate General, because in the coming days the government has to go through court examinations on many important legal fronts.
