Narrating this horrifying story, spinner Naeem Hasan said that this incident happened when he was returning to his hometown Chattogram from Dhaka airport after the end of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match in Savar. Although he was not a part of the playing eleven of this match, but was traveling with the team. When he was going towards his home in Lalkhan Bazaar area of Chattogram in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, some police officers forcibly stopped his vehicle. According to Naeem, as soon as the vehicle was stopped, the police officers started behaving extremely aggressively and rudely without any valid reason.

Cricketer Nayeem Hasan, while narrating his pain in front of journalists, said that when the situation started worsening, he revealed his identity to pacify the policemen. Naeem said, “I repeatedly told the officers that I am the national cricketer of Bangladesh, but they did not listen to me. They forcibly dragged me from one vehicle to another and then took me to the police station. On the way and inside the police station, the policemen beat me mercilessly with sticks and heavy plastic pipes. The extent reached that even after my identity was fully confirmed in the police station, the officer in charge (OC) misbehaved with me and shouted at me. Keep your eyes down while speaking.” Describing this entire incident as a violation of human rights, Naeem has raised serious questions on the conduct of the guilty officers involved and has demanded a fair investigation.
BCB Strict; Chattogram Police Commissioner admitted that the operation was carried out by disregarding the rules.
As soon as this matter gained momentum, there was a stir in the Chattogram Metropolitan Police Administration. Giving clarification on the matter, Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Amirul Islam has officially accepted the allegations and misbehavior with the cricketer. Speaking to local media, Deputy Commissioner Amirul Islam clearly indicated that initial assessment and investigation clearly showed that the police officers deployed during the operation that night did not follow proper legal procedures and guidelines. He assured that the entire matter is being reviewed at a high level and cricketer Nayeem Hasan will get justice at any cost. In this incident, any policeman found guilty of breaking departmental decorum and assault will be suspended from his job and given the harshest punishment. On the other hand, Bangladesh Cricket Board has made it clear that they stand strongly with their player and the matter will be taken up with the Home Ministry of the country.
