58 MLAs Outraged by Mamata Banerjee’s Stubbornness at May 6 Meeting; Preparations Underway to Replicate the ‘Shinde Model’ in Bengal—Here’s the Inside Story. 58 MLAs enraged by Mamata Banerjee’s insistence in the meeting on 6th May, preparing to repeat ‘Shinde Model’ in Bengal; Know the inside story

The biggest and shocking news of this time is coming out from the politics of West Bengal, where the fire of discontent burning within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has now transformed into a complete and organized rebellion. TMC, which lost the seat of power despite securing a huge vote share of 41% in the recently concluded assembly elections, is now fighting hard to save its existence. Out of the total 80 MLAs of the party, a large group of 58 rebel MLAs have raised the flag of rebellion and elected Ritabrata Banerjee as their new leader in the Assembly, who has also been officially recognized by the Speaker of the Assembly. The foundation of this entire political earthquake was laid with the election results on May 4, but its real and scary inside story is related to a secret meeting held at Mamata Banerjee’s residence on May 6.

When Mamata Banerjee put such a condition in the meeting of May 6, senior leaders were stunned

In fact, on May 6, just two days after the crushing defeat in the elections, Mamata Banerjee had called a very important review meeting of all the newly elected MLAs of the party at her Kolkata residence. During this meeting, an incident occurred which deeply hurt the self-esteem of senior party leaders. Mamata Banerjee told all the MLAs present in the meeting that even though the party has lost the elections, they should all stand up and give a ‘standing ovation’ in honor of her nephew and TMC’s number-2 leader Abhishek Banerjee. Many senior and powerful MLAs did not like this insistence of Mamta at all and they flatly refused to stand. This was the first time in the history of the party that such serious and open uneasiness was seen within the party against the direct orders of Mamata Banerjee.

Jahangir Khan’s ‘arrogance’ and refusal to resign from the post of Chief Minister became the reason for the rebellion.

Adding fuel to the fire of this rebellion was a controversy related to Jahangir Khan, a prominent leader of Phatal Assembly constituency, who is considered very close to Abhishek Banerjee. Jahangir Khan had suddenly withdrawn his name from the re-polling process without any consultation with the top leadership or senior party leaders. When some senior party MLAs raised questions on this arbitrariness, Abhishek Banerjee replied in a very arrogant tone that “See the party’s official tweet to know more on this.” Along with this, even after losing the elections, Mamata Banerjee clearly refused to resign from the post of Chief Minister, taking moral responsibility. This alleged dictatorial and arrogant attitude of the leadership sowed the real seeds of rebellion within TMC.

Secret visit to Delhi, secret meeting with Shubhendu Adhikari and planning of coup in hotels

Uluberia Purba MLA Ritabrata Banerjee took up the responsibility of uniting the MLAs who were angry with the behavior of the leadership. Ritabrata Banerjee secretly made a highly secret visit to the country’s capital Delhi, where he had a long and secret meeting with the new Chief Minister of West Bengal, Subhendu Adhikari. As soon as he returned to Kolkata from Delhi, Ritabrata came into full action mode. He called secret meetings of Kolkata MLAs in the government hostel and a renowned private hotel of the city and one by one brought the MLAs angry with Mamata and Abhishek into his fold and created a strong rebel group.

‘Fake signature controversy’ added fuel to the smoldering fire, big secret revealed in CID investigation

The biggest turning point in this entire political drama came on June 1, 2026, when the official leadership of TMC submitted a letter to the Speaker demanding to make Shobhandev Chattopadhyay the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. But Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari made a sensational revelation in a press conference which raised questions on the credibility of TMC. Shubhendu Adhikari said that Entley MLAs Sandipan Saha and Ritabrata Banerjee have lodged a complaint that their signatures have been forged on that letter. Considering the seriousness of the matter, when the CID did its initial investigation, two other senior MLAs Arup Roy and Baharul Islam also admitted in writing that they had never signed this letter. This big controversy of forging signatures of their own leaders raised the anger of the rebel MLAs to the seventh sky.

Mamta Banerjee hit back on social media, said- ‘A conspiracy is being hatched in Delhi’

Seeing this attitude of the MLAs, Mamata Banerjee also took a strong stand. TMC immediately acted and expelled Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha from the party for their involvement in anti-party activities. After this, Mamata Banerjee herself presented her views to the people of Bengal through Facebook Live. He became emotional and aggressive and alleged that some big leaders sitting in Delhi are hatching a huge and deep conspiracy to break his party by deceit and are using the state police to intimidate their loyal MLAs.

‘No hatred towards Mamta, no good for Abhishek’ – know what is the real agenda of the rebel group

The most interesting and unique thing about this rebellion is that the rebel MLAs are openly saying that they have no complaint or enmity towards Mamata Banerjee’s leadership or her personality. His direct target is on Abhishek Banerjee and the external consultancy firm I-PAC which looks after his election strategy. A very senior rebel MLA, on the condition of anonymity, said, “We are only against the dictatorship of Abhishek Banerjee, we have no problem with the leadership of Mamata Didi. But we will never allow Abhishek or any outside agency to play with the internal functioning of the party and our self-respect. In the fake signature controversy, they have publicly humiliated senior MLAs like us.”

Compulsion to protect workers from violence; Now claims of big blast in Parliament too

Minority community MLAs included in this rebel group and faces from non-political background like Kulpi MLA Bernali Dhara made their position clear and said that they are not joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). But to save their grassroots workers from the terrible political violence they were facing after the elections and to get administrative help, they were left with no other option but to join hands with this strong rebel group. After completely paralyzing the government and the organization in the Assembly, the rebel group now has its eyes set on Delhi’s Parliament House. A senior TMC MP said that within the next one week there could be a big explosion in the TMC parliamentary party. TMC has 28 MPs in the Lok Sabha and 13 in the Rajya Sabha, and the rebel group claims that very soon more than two-thirds of the MPs will also raise the alarm of rebellion against Mamata and Abhishek.
