Very soon a revolutionary change can be seen in the field of Indian kitchen and fuel. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has recently unveiled a domestic cook stove which is going to be a very cheap and safe alternative to LPG gas cylinder.
This unique stove is completely ‘Made in India’ (Swadeshi), which burns a mixture of water and ethanol. With the advent of this technology, not only will the kitchen budget of the common people reduce, but India’s dependence on other countries for fuel will also reduce to a great extent. Let us know how this stove works, how safe it is and what will be its price.
How will this stove burn with a mixture of water and ethanol?
The technology of burning this indigenous stove is very interesting. To start it, only 7 percent water will be mixed in liquid ethanol (alcohol). This mixture of water and ethanol will produce a bright, effective and blue flame as soon as it goes into the stove. Its flame will be exactly like a traditional LPG gas stove, due to which the food will be cooked with the same speed and convenience.
Is this stove safer than LPG cylinder?
In terms of safety, this ethanol cook stove is considered to be much better than traditional gas cylinders:
-
No danger of blast: The gas in LPG cylinder is filled under high pressure, due to which there is a fear of leakage or blast. In contrast, ethanol is a liquid fuel, so there is no scope for accidents like high-pressure blast.
-
Eco-Friendly (Smoke Free): Its burning does not release any harmful smoke or poisonous gases, due to which the air in the house will remain pure and there will be no harm to women’s health.
There will be huge savings in expenses, know what will be the price
The price of ethanol in the market is expected to be between Rs 60 to Rs 70 per liter. Since it has to be used by mixing water, it will prove to be much more economical than LPG cylinder. For ordinary consumers, the monthly cooking expenses can be almost half or even less than that of LPG.
After all, what is ethanol and how is it made?
Ethanol is basically a type of alcohol, which is called ethyl alcohol in scientific language. Presently it is being used on a large scale as fuel for vehicles by mixing it with petrol and diesel.
-
Raw Material: Ethanol is completely a domestic agricultural product. It is prepared by fermentation process of sugarcane juice, maize, cassava, spoiled or rotten potatoes, broken rice and plant residues (biomass).
-
Promotion of bio-fuel: Based on the manufacturing process it is divided into three categories (1G, 2G and 3G). Many countries of the world including India are adopting this bio-fuel so that the import of crude oil can be reduced.
The history of ethanol is very interesting
The story of developing ethanol as a fuel is linked to the global crisis of 1973. When the war between Arab and Israel started in 1973, OPEC (Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries) imposed an oil embargo on those countries which supplied weapons to Israel. This included big countries like America and Canada. Due to Saudi Arabia stopping the export of petrol, a major fuel crisis arose across the world. After this crisis, scientists around the world started researching on alternatives to petrol and diesel, which resulted in the birth of ethanol as ‘bio-fuel’.
