Bollywood’s ‘drama queen’ and famous item girl Rakhi Sawant always remains in the headlines for her outspokenness and controversies. But behind this world full of glitz, the story of the pain, poverty and struggle that Rakhi Sawant has faced is soul-stirring. Rakhi Sawant, who recently joined the podcast of famous comedians Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiyaa, recalled the initial days of her career, when she had no work and was living a very poor life.
During this conversation, Rakhi narrated the most horrifying story of her life, when during a private show, her life was in danger and a rich man pointed a gun at her.
Mother had sold all her jewelery to pay the rent.
Rakhi Sawant got emotional and told that she had run away from her home to Mumbai to make her mark in the entertainment industry. It was very difficult to survive in an expensive city like Mumbai. Rakhi recalled, “My mother sold all her gold jewelery to feed us and make living arrangements in Mumbai. After this, my sister and I started living in a very small room on rent.”
During this time, Rakhi met some girls who used to dance and perform in ‘private shows’ for money. To run the house and pay the room rent, Rakhi also started going to these shows with those girls.
Used to collect money by filling it in sack, then learned dance like this
Describing the dark truth of the shows of those dark days, Rakhi said, “They were such shows where only the men would sit and drink alcohol and the girls would perform in front of them. The men sitting there would spend money on the dancers. In the beginning, I did not know dancing, so I used to carry a big sack and collect the money that had fallen on the floor. For that work, I would sometimes get Rs 200 and sometimes Rs 1000.”
Rakhi told that when she started earning some money from these shows, she learned professional dance. After this, Rakhi herself started dancing in those private gatherings and whenever she was on stage, her sister used to take care of collecting the money that had fallen down.
When Rakhi broke a glass bottle on a man’s head!
In the podcast, Rakhi mentioned an incident which left even Bharti and Harsh stunned. Rakhi told, “Once we were doing a VIP private show on a big cruise ship. I was performing on the stage when a drunk rich man came forward and grabbed my hand and started misbehaving. I was very young at that time and I got very angry. Without thinking anything, I picked up an empty glass bottle kept nearby and broke it on the man’s head with full force. Gave.”
Took out gun to kill, saved life by jumping into river
As soon as the bottle broke on his head, the man became drenched in blood and flew into a rage. Rakhi further said, “After being hit by the bottle, the man’s ego woke up and he immediately took out his gun to kill me. He was moving towards me shouting taunts about the gun. There was a stampede there. Then a boy named ‘Sameer’ present there showed wisdom. He immediately held my hand and jumped straight down from the ship into the deep water with me.”
Rakhi told that she did not know swimming at all. If Sameer had not been there, she would have either been shot or drowned. Sameer kept Rakhi face up in the water and swam her to the safe shore. Rakhi still thanks that boy named Sameer for saving her life.
