Prices have risen for the fourth time in 12 days; after petrol, diesel rates have also skyrocketed in Bihar, disrupting the common man’s budget Petrol and diesel prices are continuously increasing in Bihar; Diesel also crossed 100 in many districts, burden on common man increased

Due to fluctuations in crude oil in the international market and continuous changes at the domestic level, the prices of petrol and diesel are skyrocketing in Bihar. The situation has become such that now people are tracking fuel prices on their phones before waking up in the morning and drinking tea. It is noteworthy that on May 25, oil companies had increased fuel prices for the fourth time in just 12 days. Due to this continuous increase, petrol in Bihar had long ago crossed the Rs 100 per liter mark, but now in many districts of the state, diesel prices have also crossed or very close to Rs 100.

According to the latest update of ‘Good Returns’ today, 27 May 2026, there is a slight difference in fuel prices in major cities of Bihar including the capital Patna. A slight increase in the prices of both petrol and diesel has been recorded in Patna today.

Petrol and diesel prices today in major cities of Bihar

If we review the oil prices in different districts, fuel is being sold more expensive in border and remote areas than in the capital Patna. You can check the exact rates for your city in the table below:

city/district Petrol price (per litre) Diesel price (per litre)
Patna ₹113.65 ₹99.65
Jehanabad ₹113.91 ₹99.89
Muzaffarpur ₹114.16 ₹100.11
Bhagalpur ₹114.78 ₹100.68
Motihari ₹114.97 ₹100.88
Bettiah ₹115.06 ₹101.07

Why is there a difference in prices?

The main reason for the difference in the rates of petrol and diesel in different districts within the state is the local fare (Transportation Cost) and dealer’s commission. Due to higher transportation costs in districts like Bettiah and Motihari compared to the capital Patna, customers there have to shell out more for oil. In Bettiah today petrol is trading above ₹115 and diesel above ₹101, which is one of the most expensive rates in the state. These continuously increasing prices have completely spoiled the monthly budget of middle class families.
