Major Decision in Bengal: After Schools, ‘Vande Mataram’ Will Now Resound in All Madrasas; Shubhendu Sarkar Issues New Order Big decision in Bengal: After schools, now Vande Mataram will echo in all madrasas, new order of Shubhendu government issued

The biggest news of this time is coming out from the politics of West Bengal. The newly formed Bengal government under the leadership of Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari is taking quick and tough decisions one after the other. Just a week after making the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ mandatory in all schools in the state, the government has now taken another big step. The Chief Minister has also made singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ completely mandatory in all the madrassas of the state.

The Directorate of Madrasa Education, Government of West Bengal has issued an official order in this regard. After this new order, now ‘Vande Mataram’ will have to be sung during the morning assembly in madrassas located in every corner of the state.

Rules implemented with immediate effect on all madrassas of minority department

This new rule issued by the government is very strict and has been implemented immediately. All recognized, government-aided and unaided madrassas under the Department of Minority Affairs and Madrassa Education will have to follow this order. No madrassa has been given any exemption in this.

Last week the order was issued for schools

Let us tell you that this is not the first decision. Just a week ago, the Subhendu Adhikari government had made it mandatory to sing all the six stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’ in all the schools of the state. It has also been made mandatory to sing it during morning prayers in schools.

Announcing this historic decision, Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari had clearly said, “Completely disregarding all previous instructions, the Government of West Bengal has made it mandatory with immediate effect to sing India’s national song ‘Vande Mataram’ in the morning prayer meeting, before the start of classes, in all schools under the School Education Department.”

Why was it necessary to sing all the six stanzas of Vande Mataram?

There is a big decision of the Central Government behind this whole matter. In fact, this year in February 2026, the Central Government had given ‘Vande Mataram’ the status equal to the national anthem (Jana Gana Mana). In the same order of the Centre, it was also made clear that it is mandatory to sing the full six parts of the national song along with the national anthem in all government and school functions. This recent decision of the Bengal Government has also been taken under the same orders and spirit of the Central Government.

Heavy political conflict broke out in the states of South India also

The ongoing debate over making the full version of ‘Vande Mataram’ (all six stanzas) mandatory is not limited to West Bengal only, but has also stirred the politics of South India. There was huge controversy regarding this during the swearing-in ceremonies of new governments in two major states of the South.

When the swearing-in ceremony of the new government was going on in Tamil Nadu, the full version of ‘Vande Mataram’ was played just before the national anthem. On this, DMK took a sharp jibe at the new Chief Minister Vijay and expressed protest.

On the other hand, a similar scene was seen in Kerala also. There, all six stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’ were sung at the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister VD Satheesan of the newly formed UDF government. Soon after this the leftists launched a scathing attack on the government. However, Chief Minister VD Satheesan’s government distanced itself from the controversy and clarified that the entire program was organized as per the protocol decided by the Raj Bhavan. Meanwhile, the BJP has hit back and seriously accused the Left of hating Indian culture.
