New Delhi. There is an important news for central government employees and pensioners. The 8th Pay Commission has extended the last date for submission of memorandum from 30 April to 31 May 2026. The Commission took this decision considering the demand of the National Council i.e. NC-JCM. This will give more time to various employee organizations and pensioners associations to present their demands in detail.

Deadline extended but rules became strict – now only online

The time has been extended but the method of submitting the memorandum has been made strict. The Commission has clearly stated that now all submissions will be made only through the online link decided by the Commission. Paper based memorandum, hard copy, PDF or memorandum sent through email will not be considered. Authorized nodal officers of Ministries, Departments and Union Territories can give their suggestions in a prescribed online format.

Why did the deadline have to be extended?

NC-JCM had met Commission Chairperson Ranjana Prakash Desai on Tuesday. Employees organizations said that many organizations and pensioners associations were facing difficulty in submitting the memorandum online. This extension was given after important discussions held in Delhi between 28 and 30 April. However, one disadvantage of this delay is that it will take more time for the final decision on fitment factor to come due to which employees may have to wait longer for the increased salary.

Demand for minimum salary of ₹69,000 and 3.83 fitment factor.

This time the biggest expectation of the employees is related to the fitment factor. NC-JCM has demanded a fitment factor of 3.83. If this is accepted, then the minimum basic salary can directly increase from the current Rs 18,000 to Rs 69,000. Apart from this, demand has also been made for 6 percent annual salary increase, benefit of at least Rs 10,000 from two additional increments on promotion and gratuity equal to one month’s salary.

What will happen after May 31?

After the deadline on May 31, the Commission will start an in-depth analysis of all the memorandums and suggestions. The next round of discussions will be held with key stakeholders under the chairmanship of Chairperson Ranjana Prakash Desai. After this, the Commission will submit its detailed report and recommendations to the Central Government, on the basis of which the Cabinet will take the final decision on salary increase and allowances and decide the deadline for implementation.
