News India Live, Digital Desk: Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s ‘D-Company’ network has suffered another big blow. Notorious drug mafia Salim Ismail Dola has been arrested from Istanbul in a joint operation between Indian security agencies and Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization. Interpol had issued a Red Corner Notice to catch Dola, who was absconding for almost a decade. Now the process of extraditing him to India has been expedited. Drug syndicate worth Rs 5000 crore and Dawood connection Salim Dola is considered the mastermind of international drug smuggling. According to the investigating agencies, he was operating a drug network worth more than Rs 5,000 crore. Dola was mainly involved in the production and supply of synthetic drugs, especially ‘Mephedrone’ (MD). After the death of Iqbal Mirchi, a close aide of Dawood Ibrahim, Dola took command of the Narcotics Department of D-Company. Its wires extend to Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh as well as UAE and Turkey. Dola Dola was hiding in Turkey with a fake identity and had been keeping Dubai and Turkey as her base for the last several years. He was living in Beylikdüzü district of Istanbul with a fake UAE identity. Indian intelligence agencies tracked his location and shared the information with Turkish security agencies, after which he was nabbed. Dola has more than 10 serious cases registered against him under the NDPS Act in India. Network broken after son’s deportation. Salim Dola’s downfall started last year itself, when his son Tahir Dola was deported from UAE and brought to India. During the interrogation of Tahir, NCB and Mumbai Police got important clues about the whereabouts of Dola and her drug syndicate. Dola is also said to be the brain behind the drug factories worth crores seized in Sangli and Surat. Why is this arrest important for India? The arrest of Salim Dola will not only curb drug smuggling but will also expose the routes of terror funding. The agencies hope that during the interrogation of Dola, many shocking information can be found about the current locations of Dawood Ibrahim and the new operatives of D-Company.
