Threatening video goes viral before Bengal elections, Mamata Banerjee warns officers:

News India Live, Digital Desk: As the elections are approaching in West Bengal, the decorum of statements seems to be being stretched. A video is being widely circulated on social media in which Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee can be seen allegedly warning Election Commission officials and state administrative officers. Along with this, the statement of a TMC leader from South 24 Parganas about ‘crushing with a roller’ is also adding fuel to the fire.

1. CM Mamata Banerjee’s ‘ultimatum’

Mamata Banerjee, who sat on a dharna in Kolkata’s Esplanade during March and April 2026, accused the Election Commission (CEC) of bias and gave a strong message to the officials:

“Where will you live after May?”: The Chief Minister reportedly asked the officers not to work under the pressure of the Election Commission, because after the elections (May) the Commission will go away, but the state government will remain here.

Conflict with constitutional institutions: Mamata Banerjee has warned the Chief Election Commissioner not to behave like “Superman” and “God”. TMC alleges that names of opposition supporters are being removed in the name of ‘Special Revision’ (SIR) of voter lists.

2. TMC leader Hafizul Mollah’s ‘roller’ threat

Apart from the Chief Minister, TMC leaders Hafizul Mollah A video has gone viral which has raised questions on the security arrangements:

Open challenge to the opposition: In the video Mollah is seen saying that “After the election results are declared on May 4, I will crush the opponents with the roller.”

Police action: As soon as the video went viral, the police showed promptness and arrested the accused leader. BJP has called it part of TMC’s ‘violent election culture’.

3. Strict monitoring of Election Commission and ‘drone’

Amidst these controversies, the Election Commission has geared up to ensure fair elections in Bengal:

Security to officials: The Commission has made it clear that strict action will be taken even after the elections against those who threaten officers during election duty.

Hi-Tech Security: For the first time in Bengal elections, sensitive booths and Nepal border (Maharajganj etc.) Drones and CCTV 24 hour monitoring is being done through this.

4. BJP vs TMC: attack-counterattack

BJP’s stand: Opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari said that Mamata Banerjee is intimidating constitutional institutions due to fear of defeat.

TMC’s defence: The party says that BJP is trying to win elections by using central agencies (CBI, ED), which it is their democratic right to oppose.
