News India Live, Digital Desk: It is going to be organized in Jharkhand after a long wait of about 10 years. Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET) 2026 Once again it seems to be facing controversies. The state government has decided to cancel the JET Rules 2026 and its advertisement amid growing opposition and political pressure regarding local languages. The application process, which was scheduled to start from April 21, 2026, has been put on hold for the time being, casting a cloud of uncertainty over the future of lakhs of B.Ed and D.El.Ed trained youth of the state.

What is the main reason for the dispute?

At the root of this entire controversy is the new rule in which Bhojpuri, Magahi and Angika Regional languages like were removed from the list of local languages.

Ministers protest: Even in the cabinet meeting, ministers Radhakrishna Kishore, Deepak Birua and Deepika Pandey Singh openly opposed this proposal. Their argument is that in areas like Palamu and Santal Pargana, a large population speaks these languages, hence removing them would be injustice to the candidates.

Opposition Attack: BJP has cornered the government on this issue and termed it as ‘double standards’ and ‘regional discrimination’.

3 big reasons for cancellation of advertisement:

Linguistic Disagreement: No final consensus could be reached within and outside the government regarding the list of regional languages.

Legal complications: There was a fear of getting stuck in court in the future due to discrepancies in the rules of the exam.

Lack of cabinet approval: Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) had released the advertisement in ‘anticipation’ of the Council of Ministers, but now the Cabinet has postponed the proposal instead of approving it.

The wait of 10 years has increased further

TET was last organized in Jharkhand in 2016. From then till now:

Lakhs of candidates affected: Candidates doing B.Ed after 2016 have neither been able to appear in any teacher eligibility test nor become a part of the direct teacher appointment process.

Exam postponed indefinitely: Cancellation of advertisement means that now it may take months for new rules to be made and advertisement to be issued again.

What will happen next?

According to sources, the Chief Minister can now intervene in this matter and give instructions to prepare a new list in which all the major regional dialects get a place. Until the new rules get the green signal from the Cabinet, the process of JET 2026 will remain in abeyance.
