News India Live, Digital Desk: India has achieved another major achievement while moving towards self-reliance in the defense sector. American giant company GE Aerospace And Indian Air Force (IAF) LCA Tejas Mark-1 F404-IN20 Engine An important agreement has been signed for maintenance and repair (MRO). Under this agreement, now ‘depot-level’ maintenance of these engines can be done in India, which will not only increase the availability of aircraft but will also reduce foreign dependence.

Now dependence on foreign countries will end

Till now, the F404 engines of Tejas aircraft needed to be sent to America for major repairs or overhauling. This process not only took a lot of time but was also costly. After the new agreement, complete maintenance of these engines will be possible at the Indian Air Force depot itself. GE Aerospace will share the necessary technology, spare parts and training for this.

Why is F404 engine special?

F404-IN20 engine is the lifeblood of Tejas Mark-1 and Mark-1A. This engine is known worldwide for its reliability and high performance.

Firepower: This engine provides supersonic speed and better maneuverability to Tejas.

live long: Due to depot-level maintenance, the efficiency of these engines will remain intact for many years.

Preparing for the future: This step will act as a ‘foundation’ towards indigenous manufacturing of F414 engines being built for Tejas Mark-2 in future.

Coordination between HAL and Air Force

in this project Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Will also have an important role. The Base Repair Depot (BRD) of the Air Force will be upgraded in such a way that they can directly work on complex engine parts. Defense experts believe that this will increase the ‘serviceability’ of the Tejas fleet by 20-30%.

‘Make in India’ will get a big boost

GE Aerospace officials said India is a strategic partner. This agreement is not just commercial, but it is a big step towards transfer of technology. This will provide an opportunity to Indian engineers to closely understand the cutting-edge aero-engine technology, which will prove to be a milestone for the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ campaign.

key benefits:

Cost Reduction: The cost of sending and bringing engines abroad will be saved.

Time Saving: The repair time (turnaround time) will be halved.

Strategic Strengths: In a war-like situation, India will be able to immediately repair the engines of its fighter planes.
