Alipurduar, 05 April (HS). The campaign of Birpara Excise Department against country liquor continues. On Friday, Birpara Excise Department and SSB-17 conducted a joint operation and recovered and destroyed a huge quantity of Bhutanese liquor and liquor making equipment.
According to sources, the joint operation was conducted from morning till evening in Bandhapani tribal line of Madarihat block, Sarugaon Chautara, Nangdala and Narsinghpur of Falakata block. During this period, a large quantity of country liquor was seized and destroyed. 150 liters of liquor, 6900 liters of liquor making material and 12 utensils were seized and destroyed from Narsinghpur.
On the other hand, 904 bottles of Bhutanese liquor and 174 bottles of beer were seized from Nangdala, Bandhapani and Sarugao Chautara of Madarihat block. Birpara Excise Department OC Deepak Kumar Saha, SSB Deputy Commandant Ashish Kumar, Excise Department Officer Ashiq Tarek Rehman and other officers led the operation on the day.
OC Deepak Kumar Saha of Birpara Excise Department said that raids were conducted against country liquor in Madarihat and Falakata blocks on Thursday. During this period, country liquor and equipment worth about Rs 14.5 lakh were destroyed. Also, Bhutanese liquor, beer and liquor worth Rs 18 lakh has been seized. He said that no one has been arrested in this operation.
