News India Live, Digital Desk: The Government of India has made it clear that obscenity and derogatory portrayal of women in the name of entertainment will not be tolerated. In the latest action, those platforms have been targeted which were using ‘nudity’ and ‘obscene language’ despite repeated warnings.

Which 5 platforms are banned?

Following the order issued by the Ministry, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have been directed to stop access to these 5 platforms:

Koyal Playpro

Digi Movieplex

Jugnu

Why did this action happen? (major reason)

Violation of IT Rules 2021: These platforms did not follow the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

Obscene content: Most of the web series and videos on these apps were showing only obscenity without any story or social message.

Ignoring warnings: According to government sources, these platforms were warned several times in the past, but they did not improve their content.

Digital strike under section 69A

This law gives the government the power to block any online content in the interest of the country’s sovereignty, public order and morality. Officials believe that such apps were not only having a bad impact on the society, but were also a threat to the dignity of women and children.
