New Delhi, Bureau. The Central Government has started a revolutionary digital initiative for crores of cattle rearers and farmers of the country. Now, like humans, animals will also have their own digital database. The government has launched the National Digital Livestock Mission (NDLM) portal, which aims to modernize and transparent the livestock sector. Under this new system, now the complete ‘raw log’ of every cow, buffalo and other animals will be available online. This will not only prevent theft of animals, but will also make real-time monitoring of their health and vaccination possible.
NDLM Portal: Complete horoscope of animal and livestock owner will be available on one click
Under this scheme of the government, the Animal Husbandry Department will save the complete data of every animal and its owner in digital form. The complete record of the breed, age, and vaccination of the animal will be recorded on the portal along with the name, mobile number and Aadhaar details of the animal owner. The biggest advantage of this digital record will be that in case of any disease, the veterinarian will be able to provide accurate treatment to the animal by looking at its medical history.
Panchayat Secretary gets command: Information about purchase and sale will have to be given
The responsibility of implementing this mission at the grassroots level in the villages has been entrusted to the Panchayat Secretary. Now if any villager buys a new animal or sells his animal to another person, it will be mandatory to inform the Panchayat Secretary. The Secretary will update this information on the portal. With this, the accurate number of livestock and their condition data will be available to the government from village to district level.
Data will be ‘filtered’ from village to district level
The government has created a three-tier monitoring system to ensure accuracy of data:
Village Level: Panchayat Secretary and field staff will collect the information.
Block Level: The veterinarian will perform a technical check of the data to ensure that vaccination and health records are correct.
District Level: Monitoring committees will analyze the data of the entire district.
This process will eliminate the scope for fraud and the benefits of government schemes will directly reach the genuine cattle farmers.
‘Armor’ for protection and better management of diseases
This digital database will prove to be a ‘game-changer’ in preventing infectious diseases (like lumpy or foot-and-mouth disease) spread among animals. Through the portal, it will be easy to find out in which area the animals have not been vaccinated. In case of spread of the disease, the government will be able to immediately identify the affected areas and send medical teams there. Besides, better management will also help in increasing the milk production capacity of animals.
Animal farmers will get many big benefits
With the implementation of the digital system, cattle herders will not have to do paperwork again and again. From animal insurance to getting government subsidies, everything will be done faster through online data. Apart from this, when the cattle owner goes to sell his animal, its health record available on the portal will help in getting the right price for it.
