Lucknow/New Delhi. In today’s time, from opening a bank account to children’s school admission and availing benefits of government schemes, Aadhaar Card has become the most important identity card everywhere. In view of this importance and increasing fraud, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made major and strict changes in the process of Aadhaar update in the year 2026. If there is any mistake in name, date of birth or address in your Aadhar card and you are thinking of correcting it, then it is very important for you to know the new rules, otherwise your application may get canceled immediately.

Extreme strictness in document verification: Now only photocopy will not work

UIDAI has cracked down on those updating Aadhaar with the help of fake documents. According to the new guidelines of 2026, now only self-attested photocopies will not suffice. Your original documents will be thoroughly scrutinized by the officials at the Aadhaar Seva Kendra for important changes like name and date of birth. If even the slightest discrepancy is found between the certificate and application information provided by you, the update request will be immediately rejected.

Big alert regarding children’s Aadhaar: Biometric is mandatory at the age of 5 and 15 years

If you have small children in your house, then this rule is most important for you. UIDAI has made ‘Biometric Update’ (fingerprint and iris scan) mandatory for children upon completion of 5 years and 15 years of age. If parents do not update children’s biometrics on time, their Aadhaar card can be temporarily deactivated. Therefore, as soon as you reach the age, go to the nearest center and get it updated immediately.

You will have to go to Aadhaar center to update your mobile number.

Nowadays, for every online verification, OTP comes on the mobile number linked to Aadhaar. To prevent cyber fraud, UIDAI has made a rule that now the process of updating mobile number will be done only at the authorized ‘Aadhaar Seva Kendra’. For this, your biometric verification (fingerprint) has been made mandatory. This step will drastically reduce the cases of fake SIM cards and bank frauds.

‘Double security’ layer added in online updates

If you are updating your address online sitting at home, now the uploaded documents will be double checked both digitally and manually. Along with this, giving top priority to data security, the entire process has been kept end-to-end encrypted, so that personal information of any citizen is not leaked. However, for major changes in name or date of birth, now you will have to go to the center by taking an offline appointment instead of online.

Legal action will be taken if fake information is given

UIDAI has issued a strict warning that Aadhaar is a highly sensitive document. If a person deliberately tries to update his Aadhaar by submitting fake documents or giving wrong information, then strict legal action will be taken against him and he may also be jailed.
