News India Live, Digital Desk: After defeating America, Namibia, Pakistan and Netherlands in the group stage, India has made it to the Super-8, but one aspect of the game has worried the experts. According to Sanjay Bangar, Team India has missed some important chances during the group stage which could lead to defeat in big matches.
1. There is a strong need to improve ‘catching’
by Sanjay Bangar JioStar While talking in the show ‘Follow the Blues’, he said that if India wants to become world champion, then they will have to focus on their fielding, especially catching.
Missed opportunities: Indian fielders dropped many catches in the matches against Pakistan and Netherlands.
Bangar’s statement: “If there is one department where the team would like to improve, it is ‘catching’. We saw some chances being missed against Pakistan and Netherlands. In the Super-8, opposition teams (like South Africa) will take full advantage of these mistakes.”
2. Why is Team India ‘Slightly Under Par’?
Even though India has won all its matches, Bangar believes that the team has not yet shown its ‘best’ game.
Lack of dominance: India have not ‘bulldozed’ their opponents, but rather the matches have been a bit stalemated.
Struggle against spin: Indian batsmen have been struggling to score runs against the spinners in the middle overs, which is a matter of concern on the slow pitches of Super-8.
Condition of other departments: ‘The best is yet to come’
Bangar also touched on the positive side:
Match-Ready Squad: The good thing is that in the group stage almost all the 15 players have got a chance in the playing XI, so they are prepared in case of any injury.
Return to form: Ishan Kishan’s aggressive batting and Jasprit Bumrah’s economical bowling are the biggest plus points for India.
First test of Super-8
India plays its first Super-8 match 22 February at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad South Africa Will play against. After this the team will face Zimbabwe in Chennai and West Indies in Kolkata.
