News India Live, Digital Desk: The Andhra Pradesh government has taken another major step in the matter of animal fat allegedly being mixed in the ‘Laddu Prasadam’ of the world famous Tirupati temple. After the initial report and investigation by the SIT (Special Investigation Team), the government has now High Level Review Committee Has been formed. This committee will go to the root of purchase of ghee, lack of quality and adulteration and identify the culprits.
Why was there a need for a new committee?
Recently, the SIT had submitted its investigation report to the government, in which many serious flaws were found in the ghee supplying companies and the tender process. The government no longer wants to limit the matter to just police investigation, but wants to create a concrete system to restore the sanctity of the temple.
Main tasks of the new committee:
Analysis of SIT report: To closely review the evidence and statements collected by the SIT.
Guidelines for the future: Making new rules to ensure pure cow ghee in future in Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
Crackdown on the culprits: Fixing the accountability of the concerned suppliers and officials on the basis of ghee samples failing in the lab report.
What was the whole matter? (Background)
There was a stir last year when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had alleged that during the previous government, the ghee used to make Tirupati laddus was adulterated with ‘fish oil’ and ‘beef fat’ (animal fat). After this, a lab report from Gujarat also confirmed these allegations, which hurt the faith of crores of devotees across the country.
The Supreme Court is also keeping a close eye
After this controversy came to light, the matter has even reached the Supreme Court. The Court has clearly stated that “God should be kept away from politics.” Now this new committee of the state government and the SIT will together present this report strongly before the court.
Security of devotees’ faith is paramount
The new board of TTD has now tied up with ‘Nandini’ brand and other trusted dairies for the purchase of ghee. Following the recommendations of the new committee, the rules of the temple kitchen (Potu) will be further tightened so that no such incidents happen in future.
