News India Live, Digital Desk: During the health check-up of Food and Consumer Protection Minister of Bihar Government, Lecy Singh, a case has come to light which has raised serious questions on the functioning of the health department. Major action has been taken against a doctor for giving wrong report and negligence while checking the blood pressure (BP) of a minister at a Community Health Center (CHC) in Purnia.

What is the whole matter?

According to the information received, Minister Lacey Singh was on Purnia tour, where she inspected a health camp or local CHC. During this time he got his blood pressure checked. The surprising thing was that the report given by the health worker and the doctor on duty did not match the actual physical condition of the minister. The minister suspected that there was either negligence with his health data or deliberate wrong information was entered.

Investigation exposed, immediate action against doctor

When the minister expressed displeasure over this discrepancy (manipulation), the matter was immediately reported to higher authorities. Initial investigation found that there was serious negligence in the process of checking BP and preparing the report.

Action against culprit: Show cause notices have been issued to the concerned doctors and health workers who were negligent with immediate effect and the process of removing or suspending them from service has been initiated.

Panic among officials: After the strong stance of the Minister, the Civil Surgeon has issued a strict warning to all the CHCs and PHCs of the district.

When ministers are not safe, then what about the general public?

After this incident, there is intense discussion in the administrative circles that when such ‘manipulation’ or negligence can take place in the health examination of a cabinet minister, then how accurate will be the medical report received by the general public? Minister Lacey Singh has made it clear that such laxity in government health services will not be tolerated.

Questions on the credibility of the health department

This case is not just about a wrong BP report, but it also raises questions about the attendance and seriousness of the doctors posted in rural areas of Bihar. Departmental sources say that now surprise checks will be done in all the health centers of the district.
